  • 42:08 i'm sure chat went ballistic and told you 6 bajillion times but just on the off chance they didnt: the backgrounds of dont make a sound show that pizzaboy was the mascot for some pizza place that went under, the strange obsession with the pizzaboy cutouts throughout the tower and just physical similarity between the two implies pizzahead is pizzaboy, that combined with how the tower is set up to be some kind of attraction meant to be open to the public (since there is a staff only zone after all) implies that basically a washed up psychopath pizza mascot celebrity took a magical tower and attempted to make it into a super restaurant theme park and wanted to stomp out/assimilate the competition (peppinos pizza 2 and all the peppino clones in war implying that pizzaface wanted peppino to be part of the deal rather than dead, but that he also knew to some degree peppino would never join him). is it loosey goosey, mostly inference, and barely told in game? yeah. is it LORE??? hell yeah.

    59:01 oh hey it's the demo i worked on when i used to be on the project lol Man those levels are pretty rough huh my bad, if it were today I would've definitely designed them way differently

    32:18 I'm so glad grayfruit found that easter egg, that's my favorite cute little detail that unfortunately didn't make it into the final game.

    I still remember one of the earliest animations where Peppino gets one of the secret treasures- a stick of butter- and proceeds to just shove the entire stick of butter in his mouth. Pretty sure that can still be found on the Pizza Tower Guy YouTube channel.

    my lame claim to fame is that the halloween demo has a secret dance party room and i drew some custom sprites for it back when i was active in the discord :)
  • It's interesting how good a lot of the enemy and character animations were from the very beginning. Several seem entirely unchanged in the final version. It almost seems like the gameplay largely stemmed from Peppino's character and not the other way around, which you don't see too often.

    I love how "Grinch Race" is a huge reference to "Grinch's Ultimatum" a PilotRedSun animation. It's an absolute classic that has spawned so many recreations over the years. The music that plays during the level is straight out of the video alongside tons of little clips throughout the level. Highly recommend giving it a watch if anyone doesn't know about it.

    Kinda funny, I just got done watching a video about Hello Neighbour, another Indie Game with around 10 demos that are basically different ganes. Though obviously HN is soulless broken corporate sewage while Pizza Tower is a brimming passion project that is a contender for the best of it's genre.

    God the evolution of the controls and physics alone for Pizza Tower is still interesting to me... I can't imagine how the final game would be like with the heavier jump and slower dash acceleration. Also that very clumsy looking slapping move lol

  • The fruit man moves at frightening speed to try the previous versions of this gem of a game. He makes the journey past the overture at 1:19 (Definitely better then 30 minutes). Sadly in doing his job so well he's taken mine. Such is the way of our modern world...

    Idk if I would be allowed to share, but I actually have an archive of like 49 older builds including early boss tests, standalone memey ones, and the level editor back when people were making custom levels. Idk how many levels I had though, they could probably be found in the discord level editor channel though. Some builds are similar with patches or some changes, like i have eggplant 15_1, 15_2, and 15_3 which are the last we saw before the steam version dropped. I've kept basically everything that was shared in the discord patron channels across a long time since I discovered the game from the SAGE version, which actually had Snick playable which is the purple sonic guy who cameos a lot in the steam version haha
  • is it weird i sort of miss the tv in the corner flashing weird stress-related/inducing images during pizza time? it was a weird aesthetic but it's an aesthetic i appreciate

    That first public demo was legit my first exposure to this game entirely still crazy how far this game came
