Please enjoy this enhanced version of Secretariat's Triple Crown Races. Secretariat is Truly Epic.

Secretariat (March 30, 1970 – October 4, 1989), also known as Big Red, was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who is the ninth winner of the American Triple Crown, setting and still holding the fastest time record in all three races. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest racehorses of all time. He became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and his record-breaking victory in the Belmont Stakes, which he won by 31 lengths, is widely regarded as one of the greatest races in history. During his racing career, he won five Eclipse Awards, including Horse of the Year honors at ages two and three. He was nominated to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1974.

When it comes to things that are Truly Epic, Secretariat is definitely at the top of the list, who agrees?

People forget how great a horse Sham was. He had the unfortunate luck of racing at the same time as the greatest horse to ever live.
  • Everyone is in awe of his Belmont run, but in the Preakness we saw shades of what was to come. He went wide and from the rear passed everyone, then accelerated away from Sham at the finish. Truly a magnificent animal the likes of which we likely will never see again. I’m so glad it all exists on film!
  • I never get tired watching that big red horse run. There will never be another like him. What a heart
  • The fact that he still holds the record in all three Triple Crown races nearly 50 years later is astounding

“He is moving like a tremendous machine.” The greatest sports call EVER. EVER.

In another 100 years they'll still be watching this horse.

"He is moving like a tremendous machine!" Gets me every time.
  • Couple interesting notes —. The field gets smaller every race, as the other trainers realize there is not much point in trying to beat Secretariat. Secretariat did something which is not supposed to be possible, running negative splits from start to finish. Literally every furlong he ran was faster than the one before — he accelerated the entire race. He holds race records in all three races, and no other horse has been within 2 seconds of his time in the Belmont, which is an eternity in horse racing. Truly an extraordinary creature, who over the years has elicited a remarkably emotional response in people who’ve watched his races. For me the Belmont was the greatest achievement I’ve ever witnessed in 60 plus years watching sports, and 35 years working in sports. An indelible memory.
  • It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch footage of Secretariat running. What a horse!!!!

God decided to make the perfect horse. And we were lucky enough to witness it. Nothing but gratitude. ❤
  • “He is moving like a tremendous machine!” Most iconic sentence in racing history I say.
  • @PeaceFan1
I LOVE How Secretariat's Jockey Never has to whip him at ALL and then Looks Back TWICE in the Belmont like, " You GOT This Big Red " ... AMAZING!!! xoxoxoxoo

Never has a horse wanted to win more than the great Secretariat! One of a kind!
  • @catspek
“Secretariat is all alone!” Yes, he certainly is. All the horses are gorgeous and powerful, but there is something special about Secretariat that gives you goosebumps. If the Belmont were any longer he might have taken flight.
  • Here we are 49 years later and Secretariat still owns all 3 Triple Crown track records!!!
  • I remember watching this race with my father. He asked me what horse I thought would win. When I saw him walk the track I told my Dad look at Secretariat his rear end looks taller than his front end. He will be running downhill. I'm picking him. Little did I know then the true power of this magnificent creature. So huge so graceful so much heart. Dad and I watched the entire triple crown . At the Belmont he had me in tears. My Dad had a big smile when I looked at him. It was a bonding time for us. Never will forget it. Thank You Dad. I miss You.
  • I have never really been emotional when watching horse racing, but that 30+ length lead at Belmont was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. it's like watching magic.
