I recommend spraying the latches with lubricant.
I used pb blaster or whatever works best.
I believe its something to do with old mechanism grease causing outer door mechanism to not return.

Just keep playing with the inside handle a light movement to pop the putter door latch free while locked then pull putter door to test repeatedly till door frees up and you feel the tension as normal when door is locked and you accident pull and latch returns tension.

I do this with door open or door closed with window down, you just have to use inside handle hard, light.etc and work it back into operating ...

wow it worked. I had a repair booked and i came across this video, tried it on my audi a1 and it worked. Just cancelled the repair.
  • This worked! Thank you. Glad I found this video as other videos were advising dismantling the door. I openened the inside handle maybe 40 times before I finally heard a click, then the outside handle started working again.

A combination of both worked for me on my old 2007 Passat estate. Brilliant, thanks 👍

Wow. Thank you for posting this, I used this method and it fixed the problem in less than 30 seconds. Not sure what caused the issue, but I suspect that well bellow freezing temperatures and constant winds that further deep the feeling of cold didn't help. Either way, thank you so so much for posting this and saving me the hassle of having to open the driver door from the passenger side. Also side note, quite surprising that so many people have this kind of problem.

Thank you so much for this video 😊 ihad stripped the door down plastic panel off about to remove the metal panel when I found you have to take the glass out 😮 so was about to take it to my local garage 😢 I've got to put everything back now lol drivers door is still a bit stiff as it's still very cold in the UK, because I'd disconnected the door controls I had to hold finger on unlock button on remote which makes all of the windows go down "thankfully", I will keep at it ....thanks again 🙂
  • Thank you for your post, after trying various other ideas this worked really well saving having to strip the door down. This car is not in regular use so I guess the problem is that the lock mechanism has become sticky and just requires reactivating. It was easy to tell when when the lock re-engaged, I could feel it straight away with the extra tension on the door handle.
  • Damn…it works at least for 30 seconds! 😬🙂 Thanks bro! 😎🍺

Thank you. The dealer suggested $500 door job X2. This is sigificantly cheaper.
  • Thanks for posting this. My Seat Alhambra had this problem on the drivers door and after following your instructions it works again. Thank You
