Sons of Horus Legion Guide - Horus Heresy 2.0

Published 2022-08-09
So today meand Phil do a run down of the Sons of Horus legion for Heresy 2.0 in a.... non-concise, bantering way....

Hopefully going forwards these can be done after each game I play against an opponent with a different legion. Thatll mean Ive got a preator of the legion there, whos spent (in this case) years playing the legion not just a more generic overview by a militia and Iron Warriors player.... (me)

The hardest part of Sons of Horus are getting the paint scheme down right to where they arent green and they arent blue. Their RoWs and specialized troops are super solid.

I glad the FAQ made it so Reaver Aggressor squads work in Black Reaving now and that you can turn off the disruptor array on the Master of Signals. Seems to clear up some of your biggest issues.

Thanks for the Vid I think the rather small upside to the carsoran axes is that its any power weapon, not just on characters, so there are some niches like a big 20 man reaver squad where a few might be good
  • The 4x Istvaan III Legions are my 4 favorite fluffu Legions. Thanks for the content!

Regarding the Carsoran Power Axe... Unlike a lot of other legion specific wargear isn't limited to characters. I think it's best used on units that won't gain extra attacks anyway (thus, negating the issue with beign a specialist weapon)
  • Horus Assended seems more for Narrative battles where your having Enps, Sanguinious, and Dorn fighting on the Vengeful Spirit. Good review, listened while working on my Justerian

Sons of horus color scheme is easily my favorite, and while I don't think the rules are bad, I also think they're just not great. Getting hit at -1 strength in combat is great, unless you're up against a shooting army. You're just gonna get smoked on your way into combat. Meanwhile, other combat armies are hitting you first/more/essentially negate your combat abilities. I just think it's a bad rule. Their special weapons are cool at least.

Just starting to consider getting into 2.0. I have been a long-time SoH player with a major focus on being traitor and using The Long March, very much like yourself Phil. From the get-go I haven't noticed a lot of enthusiasm over the state of SoH atm lol. I definitely acknowledge SoH were strong in 1.0, not necessarily at any one thing, but at being very versatile and able to adapt to many situations. Thats why I loved them. I am only part way through the vid. but look forward to your thoughts! First time viewer

I'm currently building towards my regular rites of war being Black Reaving, Long March and Drop pod assault. I've had pretty good luck with the Sons of Horus so far but I'm definitely still dailing them in. I hope they FAQ the master of signal or his wargear, though if they don't you can still deepstike a big unit if justaerin with black reaving, so you can build around that odd limitation, I also hope they'll update the Dreadclaws to be assault vehicles and the Kharibdis to have deepstike.

um, it's only -1 str, when charging or being charged... thats not always. And is a big difference than saying when always in melee combat.

With the long march you can have your terminators in transports as well? Run spartan and a land raider and then deepstrike a large retinue of Justerian with Horus. That’s the way I read it.

I play Blood Angels, and my main opponent for the past few years plays Sons of Horus. When I Charge, our Legion Traits mostly cancel each other out (except he still can't be ID'd), but when he Charges, he still gets the full effect of his Legion Trait. So, basically, I do t get a Legion Trait, and he still gets his that just triggers in 50% of the time. Makes me feel like I am playing Legion Genericus. That SoH Trait is really good. Makes me feel like it should only have been on the Charge, or when Charged, and not both.

Came here to get ideas for a new allied Sons of Horus force and my first thought on how they're immune to instant death from thunder hammers or power fists is - unless it's the Imperial Fists and their Solarite power gauntlets....
  • @3v3rhard
I was getting ready to get in with sons of horus but iam very disappointed by the rules. The legion trait is excellent just doesnt feel very SoH. All the specific troops are overcosted which is kinda sad. I have no idea what to do with them they just feel boring.

Missing the fact horus ascended instant deaths anything T4 with the claw and has deflagrate causing extra wounds. He deletes entire marine squads in a charge. it can take a serious toll on any non cataphractii terminator squad and I guess it just adds extra reliability to the fact ur gonna delete whatever he fights fairly reliably with the extra attacks. At T8 n FNP he’s virtually unkillable too.
  • @okonkwojones
Fluff wise, I can’t believe they didn’t give the talon of Horus mastercrafted: Didn’t the Fabricator General of Mars make it for him?
  • @deanshaw5344
ok so...... if I get my head around this.. the guys said that the MOS will cause a disordered deep strike on a 1-2-3 but then mentioned if you brought 1 unit in on its own it isn't affected by the disordered deep strike ? where is the wording in the rules as i can't see it written like that? i just read it it as everything that deep strikes is affected
  • @simonesc5313
Where are the rules for reaver chieftain squad? I can't find them
