The 2022 Farnborough Airshow was definitely a weird one. The world was just emerging from the pandemic, and there was a lot of uncertainty about where the aviation industry was headed.

But the 2024 Farnborough Airshow was a completely different story. Just two years later, it feels like we're living in boom times; the orders have never been bigger and the stakes have never been higher.

But...who actually came out of this year's airshow happy? Who came out a winner, and who came out a loser? Let me explain...

you should've included the a330neo in the winners category as it gained many orders
  • The main reason the e2 is not selling well is that the scope clause in the us prevents airlines from adding them to regional subsidiaries, in the rest of the world the a220 offers better passenger comfort and it’s wider and can be converted into a high density layout. The a220 has already proved itself and it would be cheaper to implement them instead of the E2 because american carriers have to implement the plane themselves, in Asia it is too dense ly populated for a regional jet, and in the rest of the world the a220 has more flexibility and comfort.

A330 Neo did pretty good 42 firm orders Viejet, Virgin Atlantic and Flynas.

How were the A330NEOs and A320NEOs not winners? Both won so many orders, with the A330NEO getting the same amount of orders as the 787 and the A320NEO getting more than 100 orders.

Airbus is a largest beneficiary of this ginormous and flashy air show. Many orders have been firmly added to their backlog of aircrafts which further boosts its operation.
  • Embraer has made some interesting announcements one of them is the E2TS (Embraer Enhanced Takeoff System) which allows the E2 to takeoff from shorter runways and also increases its range and they also increased its MTOW. It will only be available on Q4 2025 though. At the same time Embraer's evtol arm EVE unveiled their prototype.

Airbus in general was very much a winner, their orders for 81 A320 family aircraft is impressive and 22 new A330neo orders helps to keep production of this underrated aircraft going whilst giving more airlines time to appreciate its flexibility and eventually start replacing their A330ceo with it.
  • Coby Explains I Love your Aviation videos there Awesome keep going man 100%

I also didn’t think too much of the new Qsuite, but that’s a testament to how eye-catching and revolutionary the original version is and still is. This new version is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Personally I quite like the marbled finish and I don’t think it looks tacky. Also, Turkish Airlines also launching an all-new business product likely took some sparkle away cause that’s a huge upgrade from what they currently have. Elsewhere, it’s great to see the 777X taking big steps forward, I think that makes up somewhat for Boeing not bringing test aircraft over. I like that they’re fully focused on their certification programs and righting their unstable ship. Worth a mention that the A330neo didn’t manage to secure any fresh orders from new customers, Virgin did buy a handful, but the Vietjet one was placed at the Singapore Airshow and only firmed up here. Would’ve like to see more there. One unnoticed winner for me was De Havilland Canada, announcing big plans for the Dash 8 400, in terms of refurbishment and road to restart of production. They also scored deals for the Twin Otter, awesome to see these little planes and their makers score some good business.

I think what Boeing did with the lack of display was a good move, because the ABSENCE of their flying displays would remind most industry players on their focus on safety and certifying new jets.
  • @Nautical1001
wishing everyone a happy friday everytime im early in a coby explanes video! 2/10
  • British Airways ordered GE engines for 6 787-10, Rolls Royce is a huge looser since BA is probably their most important customer.
  • @siridevx
A330-900NEO did really well, once again, another great video, hope I can go next time!
