The U.S. is trying to counter China’s militarization of the Pacific by strengthening alliances and negotiating access to new military bases near Taiwan and the South China Sea. Closer ties with Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has helped the U.S. establish more major bases in the area.

WSJ’s Shelby Holliday traveled to the Philippines to see how the strategy is playing out on the ground.

  • Pretty good video on current military partnership between Philippines and USA, but major exercises were conducted in the 1960s thru 1991 and beyond. This is more of a reset of relationship thru signing of new treaty / agreement.

  • Good bless, Major General Rian and his brothers in arms!
  • All the Philippines wanted was respect of its sovereign terrority yet China being a bully seeing PH as inferior ignored its demands. China could have gave PH what it wanted, build closer ties and could have had its troops on those bases. Now its US troops there causing more problems for China should they decide to invade Taiwan.
  • I want to express my gratitude and respect to the US Army for their dedication and courage in protecting freedom and peace around the world. They have made many sacrifices .Whiile yokels out there see their actions as an act of "colonization". They are true heroes and deserve our recognition and support. Thank you, US Army, for your service!
