Storytelling has been an integral part of humanity’s history since before the written word. From podcasts to TED talks, storytelling has taken on new forms as technology progresses, but its presence is constant. Sharing our stories of joy, pain, success, and loss deeply connects us to other humans in the world. The Brainpower Chronicles is our way of creating community and breaking down the mental health stigma that keeps people silent. No notes. No powerpoint slides. No podium to hide behind. We know that the power of a story can change lives.

NAMI Washington is proud to share storyteller Ty Reed at the 2019 Brainpower Chronicles. Brainpower Chronicles is real people talking about real life, and mental illness. Ty Reed works as a sales professional, and volunteers his spare time teaching life skills courses for people recovering from addiction and homelessness. Ty is also an inspirational public speaker who uses his harrowing story of mental illness and recovery from drugs and alcohol to show people how they can make significant, sustainable change in their lives. Directed by Bill Bernat and Susan Fee, the 2019 Brainpower Chronicles was filmed November 9th, 2019 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA.
