Although no one has formally launched a campaign to replace Rishi Sunak following the disastrous 4 July election result, Ms Braverman is expected to be a front runner. However, the former Home Secretary’s anticipated campaign has been described as “dead before it has even started,” with right-wing MP Danny Kruger said to support Mr Jenrick.
In a sign of how long the contest could extend, former Business Secretary Kevin Hollinrake stated on Monday that a leadership race could last until the end of the year, adding, “I don’t think there is any rush.”

The Tories lost because, amongst other things, they were incompetent, corrupt and mendacious. They left behind a country where over 200,000 died in the pandemic and where nothing works properly any more.

If you were badly effected by austerity its not over because the government who introduced it say its over. Austerity caused debt and misery and that debt is still with lots of people. Thank you posh boys, over and out!

They’re always sorry for their cause, the team etc. which is understandable. Never do they stop to feel bad for the countless thousands of disabled and other vulnerable people who were driven to penury and despair. Grotesque poverty in the shadow of gargantuan wealth of a few. Thats what they stood for, and after the usual period of supposedly deep reflection, it’s what they’ll stand for again
