I purchased 4 Warhammer miniatures off Ebay, and with small adjustments updated their entire look. You can apply these techniques to any miniature you've got in your shelves as well to improve your Warhammer and make them pop on the table.

I've gotta say I disagree with Unclean One's hood thing. Pink and green is a great combo and looks really good together, whereas green and red looks like Christmas! Sometimes you don't want to go with opposite colours on the wheel but one that's close to the opposite, like how pink is to red. You also talked about models either being too desaturated or too saturated, but then you kind of did exactly that, going from a desaturated model to over saturated. Plus I think the pink stomach and red hood kind of clashed with how similar they are, made it harder to read.. Other than that nitpick, they all look amazing! such a cool video idea.

I was expecting something along the lines of Ebay Miniature Rescues, but was pleasantly caught off guard when you just started adding new layers of paint, instead of stripping it back to bare plastic. Very tastefully done, making the colour richer, while also still keeping some of the flavour of the original work done by the previous owners.
  • Well, I liked the original paint job on the Sister much more. Yeah it was a little bit too desaturated but the reworked Sisters just looks gaudy to me. Just improving the face and weapon would have been enough. Maybe a few edge highlights to separate the different parts of the mini. But he essentially repainted it entirely.

This was fun to watch, I like how you were positive towards the previous painters because they did a good job, and, didn't try to hide the work they did instead tried to push or improve on it. The great unclean one was the only one that had the biggest change and that was the hood, but that was about color choice which overall seems subjective and didn't feel like a bad thing. It was really cool to see what simple changes can do to a miniature and they're it's something a new painter like myself can learn from :)

All 4 of the new colors look great. That being said, I prefer the original color schemes of the Sister of Battle and the Great Unclean One. The new colors do look great and contrast very well, but in my opinion; the others fit more thematically for my eyes. They would look amazing for a D&D campaign; but I much prefer the grey scheme for the sisters armor and far more green and yellow on the Great Unclean one flesh. I would have ramped up the shading contrast with the sister and added more black and white. The Great Unclean One I would have gone more tried to drive home the decay. The 2nd and 3rd models look amazing though. I do prefer them more than the originals. All in all, very very awesome guys!!!

Love the tutorial on making basic paint jobs pop. For all the aspiring painters out there, if the "before" are more indicative of what your current stuff is like, YOU are awesome. I love Lukas and Emil's style, and great examples and techniques to draw inspiration from, but we all have to find our own voice eventually. Squidmar's is awesome, but that doesn't diminish yours/ours.
  • @Marconius6
For the Sister I would have liked to see you stick to the more muted, colder color scheme a bit more; the slightly spooky look she had with the grey armor and pale skin was pretty nice, I thought. I think you could have punched it up enough just by doing the weapons up (maybe with a light blue), and maybe adding a bit more contrast from the base. Plus you could have made the face a bit nicer, while still keeping that pale, blueish look.
  • @BarokaiRein
Not gonna lie that desaturated sister looked pretty awesome. I've never seen desaturated colour schemes where whoever painted it understands saturation well enough to paint a model that actually looks like you edited the colours out in post production. I'd love to see the army it was a part of because if all of them were colour graded that well it would be a really unique force to see. That said I understand why a lot of people would decide that it's too dark and dull.
  • @99thTuesday
No matter what intention I have when I start, I always end up with really muted colours. So the advice about making certain areas pop is appreciated.
  • That Lukas guy sure is handsome! He could probably replace squidmar at some point?🤷‍♂️ what u guys think?
  • Watching your videos makes me realise how lonely I can feel while painting. I used to paint with my brother but since he got a new job he just doesn't have the time anymore, so he stopped. Kinda makes me feel a bit alone. But anyways! This was a great video as always, can't wait to see what you upload next with your warlord titan diorama!

Lucas is such a pro in the sponsor clips. When I first saw him on this channel I thought he looked like Harry Potter. These ads are just, "chef's kiss."
  • @matttran7161
You know you've made it big on YouTube when you can afford to hire Harry Potter to paint for you.
  • @klug5916
I like the way you don't try to undermind the efforts of very regular painters, to add all your skills and techniques, to make them improve. I find it interesting and bringing more ideas and reflection (about rethinking your minins with contrast and points of attraction) than just beginning from scratch (like Ebay miniature rescue). Good work, guys!
  • @Quintcy
So good to se you upload, gives me lots of painting motivation 😁
  • @BotmanInMC
10:44 I actually think if for the bullman you were to color the runes up his arm holding the staff in a flame color gradient it would make it come off as when he's casting his powers his runes would glow and make a more dynamic coloration (similar to how it started out but brought to a higher quality standard)
  • @mrWonkii
This video was insanely useful for a amateur painter like me. I'll try to pump up my already painted miniatures with all the tips and tricks from this video
