The worst way is the best way for me. The hook ratio is excellent, it's more weedless, and you almost always hook them in the roof of the mouth instead of in the tongue. I like to use a swivel like you have also. It makes it look like a baitfish chasing a smaller baitfish and the weight of the swivel helps the bait to sink after it. Rigged weedless it also works great in the pads.

Great for some circumstances, but in heavy vegetation where I fish a fluke the most, it's hard to beat the "worst" way.
  • Thank you. I have always rigged it the old way and got frustrated. I will try that new way and see what happens. Thank you again for the tip.

I can’t use my hooks exposed , I do use the skin hooking on the side for trick worms tho, that was a helpful idea
  • Great tip Randy. Love the pro couch angler's coming here to bash on a legends tips😂😂😂
  • I had the same experience in the same hatred for fishing flukes I'm going to try this

Thank you randy for another great tip! I always enjoy watching your videos great job as always!
  • I was wondering if you were fishing in a bathtub? Where I fish, you sure can’t use any kind of exposed hooks. I’d be hung up every cast. I’m sure that works great in those big clear lakes though.
  • I think that's the same way you taught us how to rig a Slug-Go. Makes good sense to me. Thanks.
  • grew up using this in crystal clear water. Id use a gamagatsu 2/0 round bend forged offset: much better hookup ratio than the standard offset. would rig it so much of the bend was exposed+ keep an eye on it to weave it between branches+ into vegetation holes.
  • I have tried this way of rigging, first thing that its surprisingly not fouling the hook. I could get the swimming as you described, no jumping upwards swims like a JB. Took it for a swim for a few times for experimentation (and which rod to use) and 1 afternoon i had a fishingtrip roaming around high% areas.😊 An 873S Gloomis does work or maybe an 7ft6 would do wonders. Initial thoughts are Good, continue with the idea 😅
  • Agree you will get better action, problem for my fluke fishing is the hook exposed will gets hung on grass. Summer smallmouth river fishing over grass will be problematic with snagging unless you fish the fluke fast.

For the last twenty years, I have always rigged my fluke with the hook coming out of the bottom. I'll use a #4/0 light wire long shank worm hook. The hook point is covered by the belly of the fluke. Never have to worry about catching floating grass or snagging something in the water. Works better that rigging on top in my opinoin!
