So, right now we’re seeing a big trend in movies about the multiverse. With The Flash being the most recent to hop on the bandwagon, and Marvel hyping up their newest phase as the “Multiverse Saga,” it feels like everybody and their mother is trying to get a slice of that extra-dimensional pie.

But not all of these movies are built the same. Sure, there have been some decent attempts at it, but overall it feels like just a passing trend. However, there are two that stick out above the rest as the ones that use the multiverse concept to the fullest: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Everything Everywhere All At Once. But why is that? Well the answer is simple.

It’s all about the bagels.

Despite all of these multiverse movies coming out, despite the massive influx of the idea in basically all forms of media, the two most beloved also just so happen to be the two that feature a bagel?

If you ask me, that’s too strange to just be a coincidence. There has to be some kind of connection, some kind of reason, for it to mean something.

So what’s up with these bagels in multiverse movies?

In Everything Everywhere, Waymond talks about how cows went extinct in his universe, and in Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man asks spot if he is themed after a cow. Coincidence??? probably.

I love that Troy gassed the shit out of this video just for him to say “Yeah the bagel doesn’t really mean anything”
  • @Space_Paranoids
Fun anecdote, the 2nd time I saw ATSV I went with with one of my friends, and she snuck food in so we could avoid paying for snacks, I had no idea what she brought until I turned to look at her, and she was eating a plain bagel. As soon as The Spot said “you hit me with a bagel” I heard her gasp and whisper “what the fuck…”
  • When you said you were making “a whole separate video on the bagel” I did not expect to see a whole separate video on the bagel

Finally someone who calls out that multiverses and alternate timelines are different things!

The real mistake of The Flash wasn't the dozens of different directors and scripts or the puppeteering of CGI corpses, it was trying to use spaghetti instead of Bagels
  • Flashpoint was a 4/10 movie but could’ve been 5/10 if it had more bagel. Funny enough, the CW Flash season 1 finale raced around the halls of the collider (IN LOOPS. A GIANT METAL BAGEL). And then in season 2 finale a hamster wheel (A GIANT VERTICAL METAL BAGEL).
  • I think the best way to use the multiverse is in a game Being able to switch worlds get combos with a clone play as the characters variant

If he Who Remains had been eating a Bagel in the “Loki” finale instead of an apple the MCU would be in a better position.
  • for me its about how its one thing, universal, that can be permutated and changed and come in all different forma and styles but in every single one of them is recognizably the same thing. itterating upon itself into eternity
  • You know it's a good day when both troyoboyo17 and godzillamendoza both upload

I appreciate how you used a video about bagels and superheroes to talk about the importance of analyzing media

can we have the bagel countdown in every video from now on please (thanks)
  • @SuperBatSpider
Personally, I think it might just be because bagels causing conflict is inherently hilarious.

If i had a nickel for every time a bagel was a major plot point in a multiverse movie I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right?
