That was the best use of "It just woooooooooorks!" in ages! 🤣
  • @ianchips5886
What a great bit of kit. A waterproof outdoor version would be good. You could set up zones so the lights outside your house get brighter when somebody gets closer!
  • @Yama_1291
FP2 early adopter here with a word of caution. Aqara can be absolute derps with firmware! They all but bricked some people's FP2s in May and it took them until THIS WEEK to release a fix. My sensor was unable to show anyone in live view and thus, was a glorified paperweight for over a month. That wasn't very cool.

another great video. Do enjoy your presentation. I saw these after Smart Home Solver reviewed and grabbed two of them. Having used for a few months now I can confirm these things are awesome. Working with an electrician to ceiling mount some in bathrooms for fall detection. Highly recommend

This thing is bloody fantastic!!! You've sold me, Paul!
  • @SuperJohnnyuk
Thanks for another awesome video. I got this before launch and it was a huge disappointment at first as I had issues with ghosting and my lanky grey cat would trigger it all the time. Including tuning the tv on at 5am. Or as I would be cooking my kitchen lights would switch off as it thinks I’m not here but I am! I then paired my HomeKit routines /automations with a bunch of homebridge virtual switch so I had a bit more fine control. Ie if cooking switch on on and no presence detected, after I had entered the zone to do nothing

Glad you made this video, I needed one last push to buy a few. Thanks

I have 6 of the FP2s and they all have issues with ghosting, where multiple people show up when only one is in the room. Also many times when no one is present. I've done all the smart calibration stuff, no dice. No fans or weird equipment to trip them up in most scenarios. They're not quite ready for mainstream.

One small annoyance is the missing ability to rotate the map in Aqara's app so the device can be installed in a corner, say between living and dining room areas that meet up at the corner of the house. Apparently there was mention of this feature coming on their website a while back, but it was removed.
  • @ALaModePi
As have you and everyone else I pay attention to, I have been quite intrigued by the FP2. I've got just the use case you mentioned (two people, separate desks) and I'm looking forward to getting that automation working. "Works locally and without a need for a bridge": Well done, Aqara. Well done indeed. All you folks that require a bridge, pay attention. Directly advertising the zone presences and light sensor: This is the kind of thing that makes those of us who actually program Home Automation sigh in relief because, as you say, it's almost unprecedented. I can hope it's the start of a trend. Mains powered: Agreed. I dislike changing batteries. As much as I dislike cords hanging off things, I like changing batteries less. Doesn't work with Matter: Odd. I can't think of why one would bring out a device these days without Matter integration. Not a problem for me (being one of those Home Assistant, using HomeKit without any iThings) but I can see this could be an issue. 80 quid ($82.99): Yes, it's a bit steep except that the zone functionality can do the work of many individual devices. It would pose a limit on such things as "just getting one for fall sensing and another for zone sensing." Great review as always with all kinds of data I can use. Thanks.

My main exercise these is doing hip thrusts whenever Paul mentions Home Assistant! Home Assistant!
  • @nate_river_
This instantly replaces the motion sensors I have on my stairs. Wish I'd had access to this a few years ago.
  • @PascaleBouzon
Sounds amazing! Would this work if housed in a plastic bag for waterproofing and installed in an open air area? Like a balcony or roof top? Cheers!
  • @rhkean
LoL... Sometimes I call my dog "boo-boo"... So when I come home and say "hey boo-boo!" My Google says, "hi Rob. How are you today?" 🤣🤣🤣
  • @MakeitZUPER
Another excellent entertaining and informative presentation. I look forward to every single one a lot and TBH, most times I just don't get UK type humor. You I can understand just fine. On an unrelated subject, many are also shifting to Rumble since YT has been messing with their presentations. I like these presence sensors but are they only a series circuit or can they work in parallel with traditional controls? Do they need to be removed and the device plugged in directly in case the sensor fails in other words for those who don't understand?
  • great video! just bought it and I can't wait to install it on my Home Assistant, thanks :D By the way... where did you buy the amazing posters that you have on the wall ? thanks again! ;)
  • @NoCrow
You are a strange strange little man. And I'm here for it. Found you yesterday and subbed immediately 😂
  • @markshaz8691
Cheers Paul happy Saturday. Love the FP2 but they are hard to get hold of.
