Today I wanted to talk about the listed Unknown founding Chapters that are in the new Space Marine 9th Edition rule book, I wanted to explore their lore and what possible gene lineage they could come from

  • we all know the true primach of the Blood Raven, it is Trazyn the Infinite
  • @SianiAnne
The Mentor Legion has been around since Rogue Trader days. They were the ones to test new wargear and such. Things have changed a lot since then.
  • My "acquiring senses" were tingling that Blood Ravens would be in this video and I clicked soon as possible.
  • The Black Dragons were never confirmed as a Salamanders Successor, but it's always been a part of their lore that the Magos Biologis believes them to have come from experiments on the Salamanders' geneseed. But because they're Cursed Founding, there are no records. Also, Nick Kyme's Salamanders series.
  • The Tigers Argent were "mentioned" in the 5th Space Marine Codex. And by mentioned. I mean we got to see where their home world was located on a galaxy wide map and their iconography on said map.
  • @ThaLoser
in The Emperor's Spears novel both the Mentor legion and the Emperor's Spears themselves are revealed to be of Ultramarine descent
  • "Exorcists probably have heretical geneseed from the XIII Legion." "I knew the Ultramarines were traitors!"
  • @sverdalfr
'saving all the cool chapters for last' Ends with Minotaurs, Iron Warriors... Seems that being possessed by Perturabo left some marks :>
  • @SianiAnne
Some records of earlier Codices said that it was thought that the Black Dragons were a Salamanders Successor.
  • Ordo malleus doesn't even deal with Traitors, they deal with Daemons and the Warp. Thus why the Exorcists have close ties with them.
  • That's three of them that are unusually large and strong - Black Dragons, Mentors, Storm Giants. The Salamanders are bigger than most marines.
  • Black dragons... sounds raven guardish to me (mutations....)
  • As someone who used to have a Mentor's Legion army years ago, I approve! The idea they had Primaris before everyone else would actually line up to some older lore regarding how they'd test experimental ideas/devices for the Macanicus.
  • I'm reading Spear of the Emperor right now. Only about 100 pages in and there is one Mentor in there and he quite clearly states Guilliman is their primarch, however they were completely recreated from scratch so this is very interesting.
  • The retcon of the White Templars feels like a nod to the story ‘The chamber at the end of memory’ where it’s revealed that Dorn inducted marines from the missing legions into the Fists
  • Also let's not forget "Chimaric" or "Hybrid" gene-seed has been seen in the lore. The Firemasters could be Salamanders+Imperial Fists.
  • The Raven Guard have one cool successor that I'm aware of, the Raptors, and it's criminal how little attention they've gotten.
  • It'd be cool if the Minotaurs were actually like Thunder Warriors Mk2, no Primarchs, they'd be like a pre-Primaris, focusing solely on destructive power.
