From Dave's 1990 series on the BBC. I made some movie titles to explain the context.

  • Someone asked me once how good was Dave Allan? I told him that on his unfunniest day, he was 10 times better than the rubbish that is around today. Comic genius

Without doubt the greatest stand-up (or sit-down!) comedian of his generation... He is greatly missed R.I.P.
  • One of my favourite Dave Allen lines was when he was explaining how misleading statistics could be. He just stated it had been documented that 16% of all road accidents were caused by drunk drivers....therefore 84% were caused by you sober bastards!! The man had a great talent that hasn't been replaced.
  • recall when my dad let me watch his shows mother didn't want me to watch so i went to bed but crept back out and watched from the corner where i hid thank to Dave from a lifelong fan, thank you for this great post

One of the funniest stand up or sit down comedians ever . Love him and miss Hin and most of today's stand up;s cannot hold a candle to him.

Dave Allen has to be one of the best comedians ever. I grew up watching the Dave Allen Show. It's a pity he's gone. I cant think of any current comedian that I like as much as Dave Allen.

I grew up sitting on the stairs listening to this guy. after being sent to bed because I was to young. One of the great classics that ever lived. RIP Mr Allen and thank you!

I remember watching Dave Allen at Large when I was younger and couldn't stop laughing even after the show came to an end. I'm blessed being an American who can not only understand, but appreciate Irish/ British humor.
  • @jonpgh
I watched Dave Allen religiously when he was on our public television in USA. He is absolutely the best and I can remember every joke he told cause I repeated them a hundred times. Yes, rest in peace!

I think the late Dave Allen was one of the best Comedian Ireland has ever produced

Dave Allen was a comic I grew up looking at, okay he'd tackle any topic, sometimes his language was colourful but, he always had me in knots laughing. The people who complained obviuosly just couldn't understand the wit that went into his comedy, and obviously never laughed about much in their lives. He is still sadly missed by every one, as there are very few comedians of his calibre around anymore. As Dave himself used to say "Goodbye and may your god go with you. .."
  • Nearly cried when I read the last few lines. His signature goodbye. Thanks for sharing and giving me back such good memories of an extremely funny, but humble man.

I adored this comedian - and am gratified to see this video is still being viewed today in the year 2017!  just goes to show that the really GREAT comedians never die. because true humour never dates.

Dave Allen reminds me of an Irish doctor I had. He would cut me up with his side-splitting antics and the way he looked at life.Dr. Williams would prescribe laughter therapy to help the immune system. My doctor says to watch comedies to help boost my immune system. I have never felt so good laughing this much! I really miss Dave's wit and how he made me laugh. My stepfather would often not be able to keep a beverage down from all the laughing  A national treasure he was indeed.

I hadn't seen this episode before, but it reminded me: My employers were bought out by a bunch of Americans at the end of the 90's. The new boss held the customary pep talk. He gave us a new business motto: "Can Do, Will Do, Do Do". The room fell apart. He was dumbfounded. No-one ever managed to take him seriously again. If anyone said "Can do...." we were off again. I believe the company went bust a year or so later.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed Dave Allen's comic genius. I was addicted to his tv shows every week on the ABC in Australia. My late parents refused to watch him but I always got a laugh from Dad when I repeated his jokes. He was truly the best comedian ever. The young ones today dont have a clue they think the f&$K word often makes for good laughs. Their just stupid.
  • Absolutely love this man, best comedian, storyteller to ever grace our screens. I am now going through every Dave Allen sketch in the evening on YouTube to keep me going on lockdown with great joy. RIP Dave, so sadly missed, but never forgotten x Love & Best Wishes from the UK x
  • @charliez61
Probably one of the best comedians of all time. Love him!

Notice always how he dressed which was a show of respect to the audience. No more, no less. Known to have never been late or unprepared at a promotional appearance: a pro.
