Audio Technica ATR3350 microphone: DI Box Improves Performance

I thought I would demo how I use the ATR3350, which for me makes the mics even more of a bargain. As they come, there is a slightly audible noise-floor. When the mic output goes through a DI box first, to my old ears at least, I get a clearer sound and lower noise floor. The DIs I use are by ART Pro and relatively inexpensive.

    Would a decent pre amp in a mixer (Xenyx q502 usb) have a similar beneficial effect?
