Ward’s Grill, located in downtown Saluda, offers a nostalgic 1960s diner experience. The authentic diner has been a popular spot for both locals and tourists for over 60 years. Originally part of Thompson’s Store in 1960, the grill has become a beloved establishment in the local community. Visitors can enjoy traditional Southern breakfast and lunch options, including eggs, biscuits, gravy, and the diner’s famous Charlie’s Sage Sausage.

Established in 1890, Thompson’s Store in downtown Saluda is the oldest grocery store in North Carolina. Thompson’s offers gourmet goods, a full-service meat market with hand-cut meats (including their signature Charlie’s Sage Sausage), a deli section, local jams and honey, fresh produce, frozen meals, old-fashioned candies, and household staples.

  • This is why I like watching the Appalachian Channel for the small cafes and grocery stores in the small towns like this. there are still a few cafes and stores like this here in the Texoma area of Oklahoma but not as many as there used to be but I like seeing these areas of the country thanks for showing the awesome places and scenery there Thank You.🇺🇲🤠🇺🇲
  • Thank you for sharing. I love Saluda! I've actually visited that store. When I travel from SC to visit my son in Asheville, I take the back roads and go through Saluda. Two years ago I had to have a new tire put on before I could travel home. There was a place in Saluda that went over and beyond to get and replace my tire. ❤️ I wish I could remember their company name. It was a bit off of the main area. But first class service all the way!!! 👍🤗🙏

  • Food looked great. The chef was really kicking it up making it look easy but I know it’s not easy. I was ready to leave home and come get those fried green tomatoes. Loved the old store too.
  • Oh my goodness John. I've never heard of this place. But I want to tell you that I absolutely loved it. This family is incredible and awesome 💯😎 for what they wanted to do. These old places need to stay alive as much as possible because that is how it was back in the day and we can't forget about it. I want to thank everyone on this video 📷📸 for a job well done 💯✅👍 May the good Lord always bless you all and keep you all safe and healthy where ever you go
