Eat through and EXPLORE POKFULAM with us!

HOW HONG KONG GOT MILK! Built in 1887, the Old Dairy Farm Staff Quarters in Pokfulam was one of the chosen government projects to go through a revitatilization and just recently this year in 2022. it became opened to the public. It is currently called The Pokfulam Farm, and there are now free guided tours and also paid tours given by the Pok Fu Lam Villagers, who live across the street. The Pokfulam Farm is located inside the Vocational Training Council Complex where the T Hotel is located and is very accessible by the numerous buses and minibuses that stop right in front of it.

The Dairy Farm Company started in 1886 with an objection to lower the cost of milk in Hong Kong by more than half and to also provide safe, non contaminated milk to the people of Hong Kong. Prior to that, the cattle in Hong Kong was not really used for milk production and therefore, the founder of the Dairy Farm Company actually imported 80 cows from his home in Scotland over to Hong Kong! As dairy wasn't in our diet since the start, it's also why there's a lot of us in Hong Kong who are lactose intolerant. My dad is lactose intolerant, but since I started drinking milk from a young age, I can tolerant it better than him, but I can't consume anything tooo creamy.

Thanks so much for this video! My grandparents used to work on this farm and live in Pok Fu Lam. I never really knew much about the farm itself. Factual videos in English about this area are hard to come by. If you know of any Cantonese ones, I'd love to share with my aunts and uncles as a way for them to reminisce.
  • Back in the 50's my grandfather would drive us to Dairy Farm for ice cream. This would happen on a weekend. He would park the car in the driveway shown on the video, but there are no cars there now!

Didn’t know that Hong Kong had a unique milk history.(the dairy farm!) Also, I guess the best thing about your recommendations are that you try to find everything in the vicinity for variety so for people. I love this aspect of your tours because it is not easy to get around using public transportation. Great video and looking forward to the next one!
  • This is such a good video. Also I love the views inside the 70 year restaurant. There is a lot of beautiful sights to see in Hong Kong. Thank you Virginia sweetheart for another great video. How is the weather in Hong Kong now?

I don't think much about how primitive the places are when they have tasty food.

Hi Virginia. I missed you. This new video is great. Please make more soon. BTW what % of Hong Kong people still wear masks in public around Hong Kong these days?
