Why is Cheung Chau so famous?
Cheung Chau is probably Hong Kong's most popular and most colourful island. If you're just visiting or have recently moved to Hong Kong, Cheung Chau Island is usually the first island people recommend you visit. It's got the perfect mix of island vibes, local hong kong culture with the new generation of cute and instagrammable coffee shops. There is so much to do and see, so definitely plan a full day trip here!

How to get to Cheung Chau:
I took the ferry from the Central Ferry Piers #5. There are fast and normal ferries. It's 45mins - 1 hour. Here's the schedule: www.sunferry.com.hk/en/route-and-fare

Things to do & Attractions:

LOCKS OF LOVE WALL: As seen in the video, if you're a couple or family and wanna get your love locked onto the wall. This is the place!
Address: 82 Tung Wan Rd, Cheung Chau

BIKING: You can even get those cute cycle rickshaw ones if you have small group.

CHEUNG PO TSAI PIRATE CAVE: Apparently a pirate by the name of Cheung Po Tsai supposedly stashed his loot in the cave - so good luck finding it! It's slippery, dark and small, but good as a "bucket list, I've done it" item.

HIKING TRAIL: There's a well marked Cheung Chau Family Trail! And there's a... MINI GREAT WALL OF CHINA. You can also go find the 3 famous rocks: Human Head Rock, Tortoise Rock and Vase Rock.

PAK TAI TEMPLE: Built in honour of the God of the Sea, it's very beautiful.

CHEUNG CHAU BUN FESTIVAL:
Usually in April or May. This festival occurs on the 8th day of the 4th lunar month, so it's on the same weekend/date as Buddha's Birthday, but they're 2 separate unrelated events. The bun festival is definitely a recommended watch if you're able to visit Hong Kong during that time. Basically a bunch of competitors scramble up a huge tower made up of fake peace buns (ping an baos), competing to see who gets the most and the buns higher up have more points.

Thank you for this. I grew up in Hong Kong in the 1960s, and the Methodists had a summer camp on Chung Chau so I have many happy memories there. It looks a lot different now! I’d like to get back there this year.
