For review and criticism:

This scene from Gattaca highlights the new form of discrimination existing in "the not-too-distant future". Vincent Freeman hopes to space travel, but is prevented from doing so because of his inferior genotype. "I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it."

The accompanying score is Michael Nyman's "The Arrival".

"dreaming of space? come over here. start cleaning this space right here." man this line hurts everytime i listen to it.

It's unusual to find a movie that's as much about ideas as it is entertainment, as watchable now as it ever was, highly recommended

"we now have discrimination down to a science"
  • "I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it." I love this line.
  • When the glass is clean it’ll be easier for you to see me on the other side of it 🥺

In a way it's beautiful that Vincent's brother, as gifted as he was, still chose to become a cop probably with the hopes of tracking down his brother. And he finally does find him.

One of my favourite scenes. The soundtrack just fits perfectly. Thanks for uploading such a wonderful moment.

This film n it's score always makes me cry... real men cry...cleans your soul...I think anyone n everyone can relate to this movie, obsessed with proving u belong
  • The last 10 seconds of this are so important to the movie, but so many people seem to miss it. Physically, Vincent is perfectly capable of being a Navigator, but that doesn't matter to them. Since people are engineered to be as perfect as possible, even minute flaws that don't mean anything are considered deal breakers.

An absolute masterpiece and one of the most underrated movies ever made. I love how unlike a lot of sci-fi, it doesn't seem to have aged at all. Despite its ugly undercurrent of eugenics and discrimination, the world of Gattaca is beautifully designed - reminds me a lot of Demolition Man with its electric cars and retro-futurism. Of course with money in increasingly short supply (due to the rich hoarding it all) the real future will probably more closely resemble the worn out, patched-up, polluted London of Children or Men or the environmental and social catastrophe of Ready Player One. The wage slavery of Amazon warehouses peddling Chinese plastic tat whose obsolescence is planned before it"s even unboxed. Already we have designated 'underclasses' of people - immigrants, disabled people, 'the obese' who are pushed around and kept down by majorities who consider themselves 'superior' but in reality are privileged only by happy accident of birth. 21 years after its release, I think we still have more than ever to learn from Gattaca.

brought me to tears... watched this film at the age of about 11 or 12... ..already back then I was fascinated (and I don't know if I really understood it's message) but I was disappointed as well as I realized that even later on nobody I knew recognized this masterpiece... then...in my A levels, we got this film and its issue as a subject-matter...thought fate is kidding me 'cause never realized my own dream and won't be able to do it in this life anymore....but in the end...this, beside love, is finally what life is all about...that's what I think. But I'll let you know if I'm on the other side... if there's one.

I've loved and been inspired by this movie since the first time I saw it at 17 years old. It has helped me through many tough times and has helped me to continue pushing through even when I felt like the odds were against me and when I didnt believe in myself. I always remember to "never save anything for the swim back" and that "there is no gene for the human spirit."
