Also, not to excuse Eloise's inherent classism in that scene, what the show doesn't go much into is that the Bridgerton's are wealthy and do not need to marry to enhance their family's finances. Most of the other wealthy girls at that table have a job that Eloise doesn't. Violet wants all of them to have love matches so Eloise has an advance that the other women don't.. same for all Bridgerton children.
  • @halaelia
Theo and Eloise are my second favourite couple of season 2! Because they actually had a full arch with three full acts! I totally agree with you on Eloise not being privy enough about other cultures and even lower classes, but that’s where Theo comes in and opens up her eyes and ears! I think they were always romantically linked at least on Theo’s it was really obvious, but i think Eloise just doesn’t know enough about what attraction is until someone tells her about it, which Penelope did. I am glad Eloise had this experience and I hope they bring back Theo because damn that chemistry has the potential to be WILD, but if he doesn’t that’s okay too because i think Eloise needed to be sobered up to the reality of people not in her class. But i will say Eloise wasn’t only humbled, but it also solidified her convictions about the rights of women, and even the working class, she found validation and resources from which she can now legitimately follow through with her defences! Love it!!! I sure hope she’s season 4 cause Claudia Jesse is sooooo amazing!
  • Since we are talking about Eloise, why is her character so emotionally removed from her family. Her brother has been literally left at the altar and she just leaves in the middle of the wedding! To have a conversation she could have had the next day! It always feels so jarring to me. Getting jilted would be considered scandalous even by today's standards! How does she just leave? I think she needs to humble herself and look beyond what's happening in her own head. Edit: Happy Birthday!
  • Some morbid part of my brain is afraid that Theo's going to die at some protest so that Eloise could end up with her book canon match. I'm already picturing Eloise with a wistful smile and some hopeful music, wiser but still ending up with Philip. Like a metaphorical pat on the head. There, I've typed it out, so it's never gonna happen now.
  • AHHHHHHH the way you explain it is so cute!!!!! As for me, I really need to see more of them, they're the cutest couple in the series! I want to see Eloise trying to understand her circumstances more and fighting for what she wants rather than what society wants to see. I know it's going to be tough for her, but I'm hoping she can at least break out of her shell and see the complexities of life outside of her home, because we don't really see her doing that. It's really sad that she has to go that far to be able to get a sense of it, but she has spent her entire season trying. I need her to keep going!!!!! I'm also wondering what's going to happen though because Eloise has now been out for one season already, which means that she would be viewed as undesirable by now. She's already made her own choices but from what we see, she has already moved on from the Whistledown paper, right? We have yet to see what she's planning on doing next, but I don't think she's done telling us what she really thinks, after what Penelope tells her. What do you guys think? Maybe what Penelope was trying to tell her was actually similar to Theo, in that she needs to broaden her horizons and Eloise is finally realizing that that's what she needs to do right now. For me, it's confusing that she has managed to be out and visit that part of town at the same time, but I'm assuming she did that because she absolutely had to find the writer rather than succumb to the circumstances that were being forced upon her. It's true that when Theo shows her the paper, that's when I realized that maybe Eloise doesn't know as much as she thinks. She has spent season one hiding until she went to that ball to unmask Lady Whistledown. Then, she decided she could not wait any longer, I'm assuming. This was very bold of her, and that's why I'm hoping to see more of her train of thought in the third season. Maybe Eloise is at that point where she is realizing just how much she will have to take on if she really wants to see the truth. Let's see what decision she will make... but her abandoning Theo would be so sad!!!!! I think that's what Penelope was trying to tell her, actually. That it really isn't that easy and she will need some perspective if she wants to succeed in her plans. Penelope has been out for longer than Eloise, after all. That's why it makes so much sense that it's her season right now, she can show Eloise what she really means, and she can do it without her or anyone else. I'm rooting for both of them! But Eloise is my favorite character. =D But seeing her outfit from season three, I am thinking that Eloise is starting to work with her position rather than against it. But there is still that one question on my mind: now that Eloise is considered undesirable, how is she going to manage? But despite all of that, I'm sure she will.
  • I was rewatching season 2 and I actually really hope that season 3 has more exchanges between Eloise and Kate because they seem to really like and respect one another. They both think the other is cool and I think we could use another fun friendship like that in the show.
  • 3:24 also, this was on my part, but they were wrong for each other and Anthony was just terrible to her. I was so happy for Siena when she finally dumped him and now she's off living her best life and her career is going strong. Like, I'm glad that she got that.
  • @Rosula_D
Tbh, I was VERY underwhelmed– to the point of disappointment– with S2 Eloise. Especially her behavior when interacting with Theo. I know that Eloise is a young woman of the ton who has been raised in a very protected environment, despite her trying to experience more things outside her social status. And as you mentioned, it's not like she has received any sociology classes. But dear gods, was she alarmingly elitist and classist at times. I never do this but there were moments when Eloise was with her maid or Theo and I honestly thought "Check your damn privilege girl!" I really hope the next season shows her learning some stuff. At least Penelope knows what's going on.
  • 1) Happy 14K and Happy Birthday. 2) Theo and Eloise are adorable AF! Before Season 2, I wanted Eloise's love interest to be a Southeast Asian Guy. TBH, I'm really hoping for a Southeast Asian love interest in general. Thanks for making this video! Most of the Theo/Eloise hate comes from people who read the books, but I'm totally along for the ride because more than anything, I want Eloise's love interest to match her as an intellectual.
  • I like Eloise and Theo and I would love for them to end up together if it were possible. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lady Jenevia! Have a great day! 🙂🎂
  • Thank You So Much for acknowledging the complexities of Eloise/Theo. I am begging the writers to ignore the details of the books, except for Benedict, are very bad). Eloise/Theo would heighten the idea of overcoming the class element, almost similar to the rumor future storyline of Benedict. Eloise & Benedict have a few parallels. Eloise following class restrictions seems contradictory to her rebel behavior.
  • @mc-ge2bt
Very good topic! Not so much a spoiler as its in every single book but the issues of feminism within the Ton is also an issue. Wealthy men are taught sexuality through their brothers, fathers and brothels but the women are purposely made ignorant. When the show debuted I looked up women's colleges in the UK and we are about 70 year away from the Regency period. Eloise was in desperate need of a place to stretch her educational interests so she would also learn about classism and economics. All that to say, I'm here for Eloise and Theo as a person she dates and even tries to force the Ton and her family to accept a commoner. Either that she date Theo and allow him to be her conduit to learning about life, love and yeah, sex. Be the first Bridgerton women outside of Francisca to actually date outside of the Ton's traditional construct. I don't like her book match so she can date Theo and let that be her story, let it fail and then let her settle.

Congrats on the 14k and happy birthday! I really, really enjoy your meta commentary on so many different media properties - I've watched most of your curated review list since discovering you a week or two ago.
  • Thanks as always. The fact that I viewed this is more a compliment to your excellent analysis than to the subject matter, as I don't really have an emotional investment in the characters. To me, understanding the political and historic context behind a period is like seeing a story in full color v. grainy black and white.
  • Happy Birthday. Have a great day and congrats on 14k, so deserved. I liked seeing a young girl having her first crush. It think it's something we can all relate to
  • Thank you for another thoughtful discussion. I look forward to your videos.
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY JENEVIA AND THANK YOU FOR DELIVERING QUALITY COMMENTARY AS ALWAYS!! i'm also a gemini - must say, we love to keep the world a lil spicy and chaotic B)
  • @elenapl21
I'm so glad you make those videos. You are the reason I like bridgerton even more as a series. I have to admit I started Bridgerton because of Kate and Anthony of course, but Eloise and Theo really caught my eye. I don't know if we'll see more of them in the up coming seasons but I'm glad we had this story on s2.
