This took me 7 hours to figure out how to install

A pre-release testing version of the 1.00 PSP firmware was uploaded onto Sony's update servers in January 2005 in preparation for firmware 1.50, people guessed the URL of the update or something and found this file, and bricked PSPs ensued.
this firmware can ONLY be installed on PSP 1000s
application compatibility is virtually non-existent, however developers of the time machine homebrew have made strides to improve compatibility, however I don't know if those are able to crossover into the actual installed firmware on the NAND.
the sole application you can see (Big Bang Bang) is actually the updater in disguise as it was only used for a network test, the firmware itself was found in a less... Network Test placeholder form on a internal UMD (UTST-99119 or something like that)
English and Japanese are the only available languages, selecting Power Saving Settings crashes the system, oh yeah I guess I could have showcased the different splashscreen as well huh. It's more bold and the PlayStation Portable™️ text is missing, I also want to point out that the background for the XMB is quite different, and I recall seeing more when I extracted this firmware however no theme options are present, they may only cycle as the months pass. Aditionally the modules/libraries present in this firmware are those of developer and debug ones so were you actually able to run stuff on this it might not work as intended. Excuse the filth on this screen, this is my older bro's PSP and he put it through the trenches, I'd also like to throw a UMD in there, for instance I have Ridge Racer (however it's the Platinum PAL release so it might contain an update) alas the drive is weak and doesn't really work.
If I'm feeling like looking into how to revert the process completely I'll consider making a tutorial on installing this firmware.

More info on Big Bang Bang: it's a tech demo for the PSP and those with the source code have indicated that the executable was made in September 2003 marking it as the oldest PSP software to public knowledge, the tech demo is a simple shooting game, and while it was once on the internet the one mega link leading to has been taken down, so now it remains lost. There are still data bases which have the name and size, as well as the UMD data base with an image of the UMD it came on and it's file index as well as two gameplay videos here on YT, I've already contacted the two who may still possess it so it hopefully gets back onto the internet soon.
