I just wanted everyone to know that I had to edit out number 21 which was King Crimson because they blocked the video. I used nine seconds of 21st Century Schizoid Man and their management company did a manual takedown of the entire video for those 9 seconds.

“Did it inspire a genre?....” = Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath
  • @colinkhan2936
Another vote for 1978! Dire Straits debut in the midst of the punk era proved that the clean strat sound was alive and well! Every track on that album was fantastic.

Black Sabbath literally invented Metal. I think it should've deserved a spot in the top 5 personally.
  • @731Seba
I missed “Black Sabbath” by “Black Sabbath” from “Black Sabbath”, it's where heavy metal as we know started, I also missed “Facelift” as is the first mainstream grunge album.
  • I love Temple of the Dog, but I wouldn’t have put it on this list. It deserves to be on the list, but not top 22, and not before Sabbath.

HONORABLE MISSES: - MC5: Kick out the Jams - Television: Marquee Moon - Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath - Lynyrd Skynyrd: Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd - Alice in Chains: Facelift
  • What about Foreigner's first album? "Feels Life the First TIme", "Cold as Ice", "Long, Long Way From Home" and "Headknocker".
  • Maybe more pop than rock but The Stone Roses 1989 debut record is quite a gem!
  • @parachutejjs
The first Dire Straits album. Also from 1978. Not just “Sultans of Swing”. Some amazing tracks on that record. Not sure what you bump off though. It’s a pretty strong list.
  • How is Lynyrd Skynyrd’s debut not on here!? So many of their most famous songs are on that album, including Simple Man, Gimme Three Steps, Tuesday’s Gone, and Freebird.
  • The Stone Roses tick all the boxes and should make any debut album list IMO
  • @gooddaysahead1
Chicago Transit Authority - by Chicago. It was pretty brave to come out with a double album for your first album. Three lead singers. One of the best lead guitarists in Rock history. Nobody sounded like them. They played psychedelic, hard rock, love ballads, jazz.
  • @legomrrevies
The Strokes debut "Is This It" influenced almost every rock band that emerged in the 2000s and is one of the tightest most perfect albums out there. The Ramones debut "Ramones", came out months before the Sex Pistols released their first record and released the first truly Punk Album. Both of these are grave omissions from this list.
  • @gmill7911
Great list! Some others to consider... Bad Company - "Bad Company" Devo - "Q. Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!" Tesla - "Mechanical Resonance" Toto - "Toto"
  • Interpol - turn in The bright lights The strokes - is this it Television - maquee moon And Many more, some of These are Really bad but i got The direction you were going with The video. Great one keep it up
  • @ethanhill4877
I am so happy you included the cars self titled album. That whole album was just pure music gold. Especially moving in stero/all mixed up
