  • It is Italian, Gran Turismo Omolgato. The Ferrari had a 250 GTO. The idea of a homologated race car is that of sharing production parts with limited production vehicles to help them meet certain race regulations. Essentially, a minimum number of these vehicles had to be produced and offered for sale to the public.

Gran Turisimo Omologato.....Italian for Grand Touring Homologated.....meaning that it's basicallly a racer that qualifies as a mass production car.

GTO stands for: Grand Turismo Omolgato in Italian (Grand Touring Homologated in English). For a car to be homologated (approved) for a certain class of racing usually 100 of the cars had to be available for purchase by the public. This was established by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), the governing body of auto racing internationally.
