  • This song is just part of the entire story told on the Wall album. Its all about the mental wall he has built around him self to protect his own psyche from the stardom, failed relationships, drug abuse, mother and father issues, cruelty of the schools and social structure, etc etc. You really have to hear the album from beginning to end to understand all the songs on it. This album really is a masterpiece.
  • Full album puts everything into context. Try it from start to finish. You will never be the same. The movie The Wall is a great sit down experience in and of itself - it adds perspective.

Hi Lilly. This is a song from The Wall album. It is meant to be listened to in its entirety from the first track until the last song. It tells a story of a man from infancy to finalization (the end of his sovereignty.) It is 2 records worth of songs, so if you start, you will be listening for approx. 1 1/2 hours... enjoy.
  • It's the story of Pink who grows up to be a ROCK STAR. Each of his life's experiences slowly builds up the wall around him. They made it into a MOVIE. ✌️
  • @murdoch691
You cannot appreciate a single song unless you listen to the whole album the wall is arguably the best album ever written it's such a rollercoaster
  • @davidd3948
The Animals album is a must listen! Especially Dogs!
  • Pink Floyd is in my top 5. Masterclass musicianship. Their entire discography is something to behold.
  • This is a concept album. Rock opera. Masterpiece. It's intended to be listened to in its entirety.

If you want lyrical Pink Floyd, you can't miss with 'Time'; the lyrics are literally about time and how a person perceives it reacts to it from early in life until death. Along with the powerful lyrics, it also sounds really good.

Pink Foyd has been my happy place for nearly 45 years. So cool to see the youngins appreciating these guys. Keep up the fun reactions and thank you for the fun share. Cheers!

The best way to understand this song is to start the album from the beginning, and listen to the whole story. You just started a 26-chapter story on chapter 13. I'm glad you like the song, but the level of enjoyment goes up when you understand the bigger picture these songs create. Love the reaction, keep the Floyd stuff coming!
  • They're phenomenal! Rick Wright is gone too soon from cancer which is extremely sad, because he & David Gilmour were magical together! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Us and Them" because it TOTALLY fits the times were in! Also "High Hopes" because it's one of the most beautiful songs ever..."the dawn mist glowing"... gorgeous lyrics!

When Nick Mason's "Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains" exhibit was in Los Angeles, there was a video with an interview with Roger Waters where he talks about this song. Its a reflection on Waters during the "Animals" period where he was aliening himself from society "Standing in the aisles with itchy feet and fading smiles". After the incident in Toronto where he spat on one of the concert goers, he started realizing he was wrong and tries to "reconnect" with his listeners "With your ear against the wall waiting for someone to call out". But, he found that he had isolated himself so much that he was finding it impossible to do "The wall was too high, as you can see. No matter how he tried, he could not break free". He starts asking his listeners to forgive him "Out there beyond the wall, breaking bottles in the hall. Can you help me?". He tells his listener's this isn't just my problem. Unless you are willing to listen to my music and pay attention to the meaning, rather than use it just to party to, I may stop making music altogether "Don't tell me there's no hope at all. Together we stand. Divided we fall". I'm not a real big fan of the man's politics or his bass playing (most of what you hear is actually David Gilmour on a Fender fretless Jazz bass). But, you have to give credit where credit is due. The man can string words together in such a way that, no matter what, you can apply it to something in your life.

The Wall needs to be listened from start to finish, puts everything in perspective, and is truly one of the greatest albums start to finish
  • None of the songs on The Wall can really be explained as separate entities…it’s all part of one big story culminating in a spectacular trial. Amazing Album, Show, Film

You see alot for such a young soul! Hope you do more Floyd in the future. Their music is addictive.
  • @hgsyavuz1230
"with you ear against the wall Waiting for someone to call out Would you touch me" I'm crushed under this sentence
  • @TheSadpunk0
Thanks for your love of music. I appreciate your journey as you discover new artists and enjoy your insights. As others have said, this song is best interpreted in the context of the album The Wall, which was a concept album dealing with social and personal pressures and emotional isolation. In this song, the narrator has built up a mental and emotional wall for self-protection from harsh reality and is crying out for intimacy and human empathy
  • You need to get CD " Dark Side of the Moon! In class by itself!😉
