In this mini-documentary, I cover the story of Joel Ortiz. From growing up in Boston public housing to landing a full-ride scholarship at UMass Boston to Study Computer science, where he would then steal millions of dollars in a never-before-seen financial cyber attack targeting large crypto investors and companies. What did he do with the money? Lived the life of a billionaire's son, designer clothes, private yets, taking trips to LA, you name it; before it, all came crashing down to a series of mistakes.

  • Stealing the amount of money a couple has been frugally saving for 30 years of their lives in order to provide their kids with a better life than they had is absolutely deplorable. Getting less time than the amount of time it took for his victims took to accrue this is a kick in the face
  • I'm one of the victims in the documentary. Thanks for putting together this story for others to learn about the devastation this group has caused.
  • Craziest part of all this to me is how easy it was to draw a line from the exploits to the people. It wasn't even that they made some small OPSEC mistake and got caught, they literally just put their whole life out there and apparently assumed no one would ever come looking for them.

10 years!!! and the guy that stole 22 mil got 18 months!!!... WTF, there are people serving 20+ years for smoking weed!!!
  • @seanh8546
Dude was flabbergasted that anyone would rob him at gun point lmao it's exactly what he's been doing they just had the balls to do it in person.

First time seeing any of your videos. I clicked and saw that it was 43 mins long and said no way I'm watching this. I ended up watching the entire thing. You did a great job with this, hope you channel grows because you deserve it
  • This video really struck a chord with me, because when I was a teenager, I was just like these guys. I just took a different path. I made my money in high school not by working a part time job, but by developing hacks for games such as Counter Strike and selling them. I very easily could have gotten into more nefarious pursuits, but I ended up taking a different path in life, and now I'm nearly done with my undergraduate studies in Computer Science, considering going for my PHD. I'm interested in the fields of cybersecurity, cryptography, and artificial intelligence.

The difference between their sentences is insane. One stole 1.5mil and recieved a 10 year sentence, and another one stole 22mil and recieved a 16 month sentence.
  • @planety2k
fraud is so grossly under sentenced. he should of easily got 3 decades minimum. to hear that woman talk about how she’s now facing having to work for the rest of her life because of this was heartbreaking. they aren’t even stealing from the extremely wealthy.
  • @hvhkidcudi
The research you put into this is nuts, love seeing the OGusers rabbit hole explored.
  • @Uncle-Ruckus-
I knew a guy who shutdown the entire server system for a school district and he did it from a terminal in the high school library. FBI showed to the school, went to his house and confiscated all of his tech, he was on probation for a good while, the works. One day, someone knocked on his door and found him on the floor, dead from (I'm guessing because he had a past with it) heroin. The kid was a childhood friend and his dad's worst nightmare came true, that one day he'd get a call informaing him his son OD-ed. Guy had the entire world in front of him with his genius level intelligence and he only made it to 27. I miss you, bro.
  • @J344Y
moral of the story get more than 22 million and you’ll have a great lawyer 😂
  • "people between the age of 18 to 25, who are living in their mom's basement, existing off uber eats, and all of a sudden, they're instant millionnaires" Holy shit i love the girl at the beginning of the video, clearly a milestone to have her review your cybercrimes
  • @Jennn
I am only 8 minutes in and I had to pause to take the time to say how much I really appreciate the time and detail you have put into telling this story. It is really immersive and captivating, and just, Well Done. Thank you and I hope you get 100x the views cause it deserves it.
  • It’s crazy how cyber crimes are still “glorified”. You would think that with all the advancements in technology that these scammers would have enough methods to legally make money online now.
  • @Bard_Gaming
Doc is a homie. He turned his life around and I respect that a lot. Must be funny having something along the lines of "stole $14,000,000 from companies due to my technical prowess" in his CV
  • @CrumbRS
Hope you guys enjoy this one :)
  • 18 months for stealing 22 mills is crazy yet the Asian b4 took 1.5 mill & got a decade smh 🤦🏾‍♀️
  • @PGtheVRguy
