HOW TO THRIFT (become a pro)!! No gatekeeping here 💗

i have ONE thrift store near me- a bedroom sized goodwill. I have to walk everywhere. Everyones videos look like huge regular stores with so many cute vintage clothes 😭

Am i the only one who isnt allowed to go thrifting from parents or guardians tbh i want to go thrifing cz i want to look for corsets too😢

i live in a small town where we have basically nothing OTHER THAN thrift stores/charity shops! so this is a NEED, thank you ally!!!

A tip I recommend is if your thrift store has a dollar section to go there first because most of the time you’ll find damaged pieces, but sometimes you will get lucky and score! I just got 7 perfect condition items from my dollar section and I’m so happy!!!

I got so lucky yesterday, my Pinterest board had so many denim mini skirts, and Y2K camis, and loads of lace lined jeans, I found multiple of all of those items! The thrift gods are praising me 😭

When looking at tops or anything really, have in mind a length you are looking for, crop, waist or longer, and stand back and look at the whole rack with that length in mind. So you can zero in to the items with the right length and then quickly through the colours/fabrics you want.

PART 1 [preparing for the thrift] TIP 1 has 2 subtips!! TIP 1 ! - how to find the best thrift stores - 1- go to outlets the people determining what should be kept in the regular stores don't really value anything from over 10 years ago (which is what a lot of people look for) so those clothes end up in outlets. outlets also tend to price their clothing lower than in regular stores. summary- if you are specifically looking for things from the 2000's or before, try going to the outlets before regular stores. 2- stalk content creators/resellers you can find places to thrift by looking at where people online are going. if you are looking for other locations in your area that are not as popular like the goodwill bins, you can try to find people in your local area that love thrifting, post about it and post items you love. if they are big, scroll through their comments to look for places, and if they are small them go ahead and dm them to ask. TIP 2 ! - find out when new stock comes in - all stores have different times for when they put out new clothing, finding out the times for where you want to shop is important if you want to find good and cute items early before they get taken. to find out the times, ask a staff member, they will tell you! TIP 3 ! - create a pinterest board for inspo - at the beginning this can be helpful because thrift stores can be overwhelming with how huge and stocked full they are of not exactly the pieces that you would be trying to find. look for pieces on pinterest that you like the day before you go thrifting, then look through your board and get a general theme of what you like. by doing this, you should be able to see what you really want and it won't be as difficult to search for things while thrifting. TIP 4 ! - map out the time to the store - lil quick tut by ally <3 in apple or google maps, you can put what time you want to arrive at your destination, and it will map it out for you! this is helpful because now you can do it the night before. TIP 5 ! - wear minimal clothing and comfy shoes - thrift stores dont always have dressing rooms so its important to wear clothes that you can try clothes on over. thrifting can take a long time so you should wear comfy shoes in order to not hurt your feet from all the walking. TIP 6 ! - what to put in your bag/purse - slouch over the shoulder long bags that you can easily thrift with. 1. earbuds 2. hair clip or hair ties 3. measuring tape ( for when you dont want to try on things in public, in a rush, or just too lazy to try things on lol ) 4. a snack 5. water if you plan on using the measuring tape, i recommend that you watch that part of the video for more info <3 PART 2 [at the thrift] TIP 1 ! - find the section that you care about the most - if you dont really have a fav section in mind then go to the shoes. TIP 2 ! - look for details from your pinterest board - colors, materials, designs, patterns this will help you cut down on time and help you search faster. you can easily eliminate things you are not looking for. TIP 3 ! - look in the kids section - often in the kids section, you can find cute miniskirts or small tees. sometimes workers will put adult clothes with the kids clothes by mistake. TIP 4 ! - give items a chance - on the rack, some peices might look bad or look like it doesnt fit but once you give it a try, they can turn out being really cute! TIP 5 ! - do a twist test on shoes - thrift store shoes tend to be deteriorated from years in a closet, weeks or days of being transported in a hot vehicle. the material within the shoe tends to disintegrate but you might not be able to tell just by looking at it. TWIST TEST- twist at the heel of the shoe and make sure it doesn't fall off. also try giving it a hard tug just to be 100% safe. TIP 6 ! - how to thrift quality purses - dont buy purses if you can see that they are shredding ! they will continue to shred. 😭 stay away from stains or bad smells in purses because you may not be able to get rid of that. TIP 7 ! - dont buy something just because its cheap - if you think this will go through your mind when you see it in your closet - "maybe ill wear this next weekend.." dont buy it!! you should be excited about ever piece in your closet! "save your money for when those good finds come along." - queen ally <33 TIP 8 {final tippp} ! - find specific items at markets or on apps - poshmark, vinted and depop are online options! try thrifting for the item maybe once or twice, then if you cant find it, go to a market or app. i managed to pack this whole video into one comment while eating a peanut butter sandwich and drinking some milk in my free time, so yw i guess😭

Another tip I have that kinda goes under the umbrella of checking for stains, rips, etc: check the buttons on purses, shoes, and shirts. The amount of times I didn't realize a missing button is insane but I forget all the time lmao. (Also, love this video!!!)

hey ally, i love you and i just want to say you have inspired me so much. i go thrifting weekly now and my closet is slowly becoming all thrifted items. i was listening to you talk about how you try clothes on in the store… which i now do because of you. the way clothes fit when i would bring them home would always disappoint me. however you showed me it’s okay to step out of my comfort zone and be sure i’m in love with the pieces i picked. anyways i just wanted to say you are inspirational and i love this content. ive been here from the start and i’m excited to see what all you accomplish :,) <3

A tip I someone else taught me in the thrift is to use the baby buckle where you put kids to clip your purse if you dont want to hold it that way it doesn't get stolen!

Hi Ally, despite not having watched the full video, I really wanted to tell you that I absolutely love your vids sm. I struggle a lot with my self confidence and only wore big oversized shirts until very recently. You kinda motivated me to start thrifting as well and I've really been loving finding unique pieces for my wardrobe, it helped me a lot with accepting myself and feeling better in my skin and I think you did a great part in that as well with your positive energy and excitement for fashion🫶🏻So yeah I looove you and your vids they're amazing and I wanted to thank you big time for that!!!!!!
