Raging flood waters knocked down a bridge and tore away much of an apartment building in Plainfield, Vermont.

Hurricane Beryl's remnants dumped more than 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain in just a few hours Wednesday and Thursday on parts of Vermont, destroying and damaging homes, knocking out bridges and cutting off towns.

Two people were killed by the floodwaters, authorities said.

When these floods start to happen yearly it's time to get out. Vermont has too many rivers and we're getting two severe and extreme of weather. I would move to higher ground.

Mill Street, kiddos. Back when mills were a thing, they were powered by the river's water. Flooding made no difference because the homes were built on higher ground. Since the mills closed down, we thought it was smart to populate the area with homes and shops. This is the result of that thinking.

Spent many years in VT. I love that State. Tough place to make a decent living though. Its a beautiful State but most town's typography is a disaster waiting to happen. There all lovely quaint little towns but most are built in the lowest part of the valley some in perfect confluence of the surrounding very large mountains that funnel all run off right into the town's lowest point. Which usually also has a river running through it and a decrepit old bridge that i would have thought were all rebuilt post Irene. Vermonters are a very proud and tough folk. Good Luck to all.

Its called heartbreak hotel because in the 60s and 70s people all living in that building were dating eachother and breaking up for another person in the same building
