In 1796, at the height of the Revolutionary Wars, Napoleon Bonaparte took command of French forces in northern Italy. He was just 26 years old and had never commanded an army before. Within weeks, he had turned his ragged, demoralised troops into a ferocious fighting force, defeating the Austrians and knocking Piedmont out of the war. With success, Napoleon began to believe it was his destiny to shape the fate of nations. In this series, we follow Napoleon's first glorious campaign step by step.

I hope you enjoy the full Napoleon in Italy series, chronicling his entire campaign in one place for the first time. Big thanks to PMF Productions for all their hard work on the series and to Keith Rocco for letting us use his amazing artwork. This was Napoleon’s first campaign - the beginnings of a little-known French commander who’d one day become a global legend. So what was the decisive battle? Which victorious tales would his troops regale their loved ones with on their return to France? Give us your thoughts in the comments below. This is what should be on the theaters ,not the fanfiction Ridley Scott made

"Italy Surrendered without a fight" - Ridley Scott's "Napoleon"
  • Please, I beg it of you all at Epic History TV, to continue your series on Napoleon and next pursue his campaigns in Egypt and Syria. There are almost no videos about them here on Youtube, and even if there were, they could never come close to the detail, energy and effort that your videos capture.

The new film about Napoleon will be in cinemas in a few days. No matter how good it will be. This film won't come close to your brilliant videos about Napoleon and his battles. You are one of my favorite history channels on YouTube. The best books are no match for your depiction of the Napoleonic Wars.
  • It’s a CRIME that Ridley Scott’s Napoleon took all this history and condensed into an off-hand remark made while Napoleon was in Egypt. Even though this campaign was him at his best AND way more impactful historically. Thank god for EHTV for giving the history buffs what we’re really looking for!!!

What an epic campaign, can’t wait to rewatch it all at once

I am 83 and live in France, and now with French Nationality. In the Summer I found in a Puce (Flea Market) a remarkable document published in 1928 by Ecole Special Militaire, Saint Cyr entitled Cours d'Histoire Militaire. It is an absorbing publication but a litle difficult for a non-Military person as it follows Pre Napoleon, Napoleon, and Post-Napoleon history and tactics. I have yet to finish it but have just completed the Campaigns in Italy, about which I knew very little. To say it was complex is an understatement, so I have been delighted to discover your series on this period. I am now better 'armed' to 'battle' my own way through the rest of the extraordinary complexities of these periods! Brilliant work by all concerned with the series, and I would only hav one very small suggestion which would be to place the videos in Date Order of events, and then put the collected ones as a separate listing. Purely as an aid to my poor old brain! Many thnks for the series though, absolutely a massive aid to any one interested in this period. I will see the new film Napoleon next week, but it is panned widely here in France. The best I have seen so far has been the French TV series of Napoleon, with Christian Clavier in the leading role? I would say Rod Steiger in Waterloo ( and Christopher Pummer as Wellington) is th best film by a long way.

The First Italian Campaign contains the essence of Napoleon's strategy and tactics.

Growing up I wasn't really an enthusiast of history but thanks to Epic History, Oversimplified, Kings and Generals, Baz Battles, History Marche, History Buffs, BlueJay, Sam O'Nella, Historia Civilis etc I've really turned a corner. But want to thank Epic History the most because I love Napoleonic History the most and they always out do it with the knowledge, production, narration, etc. These guys should be on BBC, National History, etc. Amazing work, love you guys.

This series is literally the best historical documentary I've ever seen. I've watched Rivoli and Arcole about 10 times each.
  • Just to watch of how quick Napoleon moved his army throughout the campaign is astonishing, to see Just one man move an army so wide that he was able to move like lightning speed throughout the entire Italian campaign and forced the Austrians to seek an immediate surrender and thus ending the war of the first coalition on the allies' head.
  • @barlmax4095
I think this is Napoleon at its best, always in the back foot and always having to react. fighting both the Austrians and the Directorate being calm and collected in the worse of scenarios and almost always making the worse of scenarios into victories. almost no general can be as good as him without external help
  • @steves1584
Had to come here to cleanse myself of the atrocious Napoleon film.
  • @JeffSmith-pl2pj
Napoleon was a military genius but he was also very lucky.
  • @hranman485
I have my bachelors in history. I teach history at a high school level. I was not a Francophile before I found this channel, but I am now, best most concise historical videos I have ever seen on YouTube. Honestly, even better than 90% of what you see on TV. Please never stop making these.
  • @oliverrose5702
Their is only one problem with this production... You can't ever stop making Napoleon content in the future as I'd miss them too much 🤣 The Videos are just too damn good, great job as always Epic History TV
  • That Ridley Scott's film was a caricature and it pales in comparison to what we have here. This is a masterpiece! Kudos Epic history!!!
  • @Rohv
I never knew how intense this war is. So many ups and downs. Seems like two steps forward for Napoleon and a step back. Great video! I now appreciate not just Napoleon's genius, but his perseverance and determination to overcome all odds and not make a setback discourage him.
