    Medieval Italy was something like ancient Greece. All one nation divided in many states fighting against each other.

    You forgot to show the Greek Islands under Genoese Rule as well. For instance, I'm an ethnic Greek, who has Genoese ancestry from the Gatelusian Dynasty on Lesvos, which lasted over 100 years. My surname is a hellenicised version of the Italian name Francoglio, which is more prominent in Northwestern Italy.
