it blows my mind that the monkie kid being a MONKIE kid was a plot twist

If the show ended here I wouldn’t even complain. Every season always one ups the last and sets a bigger and more interesting story to tell.

Something I really love about Wukong is that, he basically has the same storyline as Rose Quartz, except he's still alive and able to redeem himself.

The contrast between Wukong and MK is so interesting to me. Wukong spent his whole life obsessed with amassing more and more power, even after he had more than he would ever need. Meanwhile MK is terrified of power and just wants to live a simple life. And even if his methods were kinda flawed, you can tell Macaque tried really hard to streer MK away from that path. The whole lesson he tried to teach MK during "Shadow Play" was to not get so caught up in the pursuit of power that you neglect the people in your life.

Season 4 and the season 4 special is the reason why Moinke Kid is such a great show having MK have to prove that he might be taking up the mantle of the monkey king he isn’t like him and he isn’t putting his friends in danger and that you can change even when mistakes are made

I love seeing people talk about this show and your analysis on Mk’s character, but I would disagree with your take about Mk’s character at the end of the season. Mk as definitely grown as a character, but to say that him tapping into his monkey form was an act made through self-realization isn’t quite true. To me him using that power was more of a breaking point for him, a point where he had enough of azure lion and is then filled with anger, frustration, and distraught leading him to use his new form. On top of that although he claims that he’s not a “mindless beast” I don’t think you can say he really has control of his power either. This mainly comes from his uncharacteristic form of confidence paired with his raw rage that he lays onto Azure, in his new form he doesn’t really seem like the same Mk. I agree that by the end of the season he acknowledges his larger role in the world, but I still don’t think it’s something that he fully understands quite yet nor is totally ready to confront, maybe even still be trying to avoid. In the end I agree that he’s grown to confront and fix the mistakes of his past, but now he’s trying to hide from his future and from what he’s to become.
  • I’m so glad I watched this series and got the chance to meet Azure. He was never a bad guy. He just needed accountability. You can feel how hard he’s trying to make a positive impact, but sometimes life just makes that so difficult. When faced with choosing between our friends or our convictions, we find out who we really are. That’s the price of leadership. The throne never comes for free. Also the voice acting is clearly top tier

Oni Lloyd crawled so Monkey MK could sprint at breakneck speeds.

There's definitely going to be a season 5, there's no way the makers of Monkey Kid aren't going to reveal who let Asure Lion out.
  • @fanofcartoons.
season 4 as a whole was truly amazing, i love mk's arc in this season
  • Now that someone's put it into words, MK and Aang from ATLA share a lot of similarities, though Aang comes to terms with his powers a lot sooner in his series

Honestly they handled mk's monkey form better than lloyd's oni form. I mean i kinda expected mk to turn into a monkey but I never thought it would actually happen. For lloyd I had a feeling since the oni trilogy that lloyd could turn into an oni but they ruined it as it was only for a few seconds. And garmadon told lloyd the overlord could be defeated permanently if he used his oni form but still used the ultra dragon. Meaning the overlord isn't dead and will return one day.

I would like to see a precule series of Wukong and see his journey to see how he bacame the Monkey King. we could see the journey of the qest and see these adventures we heard but never saw, and it could be told in the after season 4 and Wukonf telling everyone about his adventures

Great analysis! So much of this lines up with my own analysis of this season. (Also I love how a good chunk of the video was just clips from s4e7.) The big thing I disagree on is MK "coming to terms with" and "embracing" his powers in the special. I'd say he's still afraid of hurting others (case in point: the ending, where he reiterates his desire for things to stay the way they are now), and he's still afraid of his own powers (after the transformation disappears, he's still glitching, and he stares at his glitching body in fear ). The epic battle with Azure isn't him embracing the powers; it's the powers bursting out because he can't keep them in check any longer, and also because that's the only way he can protect Sun Wukong (who, in s3, said that his powers come to him when he needs them most). He does learn a few things. First, after Macaque's pep talk, he realizes that he's not bound to his destiny and that he can make his own choices. However, as the buildup to the battle shows, he's still afraid of that destiny, and he's really just shelved that thought so he can focus on dealing with the problem at hand. When he finally uses the monkey form, we see full-on the effects of four seasons of character development, but he's not yet in full control of that form (he can't summon it at will, and after it wears off, he's still glitching). Shelving it is one way to overcome a fear, but it doesn't actually address it. … Which leads us into season 5.
  • No one gonna talk about how Azure lion is voice by the VA of vegeta and son wukong Is voice by the VA of goku?
  • Nicely done video!! You certainly changed my perspective on his monkey form, I thought it was an alter ego hijacking the fight. The form being his true self, unrestrained by his fears makes a lot more sense.

Great video! I can't help but feel like this is what Lloyd's arc in Crystalized should've been. However, instead of him hearing the bad stuff about Garmadon, he did have to experience it firsthand so that could've been touched upon too. But hey, no point crying over spilled milk and he is great in DR.

I have been wait for this for 4 months now
