Internet thinks this Planted Aquarium shouldn't exist

On the internet, this filtration system is the worse filtration system. You'd be better off throwing dog poop into an aquarium for filtration instead of an UGF. Add on top of that running pressurized CO2 for the plants and this tank doesn't seem to make sense.

Have you ever ran a tank like this before, because I know of like 2 other people that have.

    I know it's an old video, and I hate using this word, but that's dope. That's like, a suped-up old muscle car in fish tank form. Never seen that combo and I have to say, I wish I thought of it. Kudos, man.

    Years ago I had a UGF on a 33 gallon. Never had any problems until I was talked into taking it out. The amount of frustration that followed caused me to leave the hobby for 15 years! I don't have a UGF now, but will consider getting one if/when I get another tank.

    I had 2 tanks that made it 30 years with under gravel filters. They were crystal clear always. They would have went longer but we had to move.

    I’m so glad you brought undergravel filters again. I remember getting back in the hobby a few years back and being told how antiquated UGF’s were compared to all the new stuff. I’m so glad you brought this back.

    Low tech and High tech in combination............ My UG Planted tank enjoys the pressurized CO2 as well, but I tend to run it intermittently these days or else the plants fill in the whole tank ..........fish need some water for swimming .......lol :)

    I have ALWAYS had undergravel filter, no co2..my fish have been awesome for 10 years. Only thing I do have to add plants about every 6 months,but only because the fish nibble on them.

    No I think they had it right back then 👍🏼 it worked I don’t know why it changed , I have gone back to the under gravel and it is the best thing I did 👌🏾👌🏾

    I'll never setup a tank without a UGF! I've tried it and it never works except maybe in my quarantine tank.

    I see nothing wrong with using a UGF. And as your tank shows it works.

    Out of curiosity, have you ever tried a dirted substrate ontop of a ugf?? If so, what were your thoughts on it.
