First under lever on the channel HW97K Review - Blue laminate!

Published 2024-04-28
OK so I've steered clear of breakers and springers since my crosman silver fox. I got disheartened. You guys recommended this rifle so I'm going to give it a go!

Best underlever for the money available, love mine to bits. I currently have one of these (with the beech sporter stock, I like wood) and a HW100 bullpup, all the airguns I need. Not that that will stop me buying more, I have my eye on a HW98 too... Be a bit more careful hanging on to the lever when your thumb is in the breach though, it's just held on the safety and isn't a proper anti-beartrap. If you set the trigger as light as you can, and they do go very light, you can bump the gun and have it slam shut. That could cost you the top joint of your thumb and, more importantly, get blood all over your laminate stock. Keep a good, solid grip on the lever whenever it's being loaded. Two fingers isn't enough, it'll rip out of your grip before you can react, I've seen it happen. Also try it with a smaller scope, I fitted an MTC Viper Pro 10x44 fixed on mine, looks stunning and it's as much scope as you need at springer ranges.

Great rifle with PCP accuracy. Even better accuracy than a lot of PCP's on the market if you know how to shoot the 97. The scope is way to big, you need to swap to a more compact scope to get good acces to the loading port. Thanks for showing and hold the underlever when loadingšŸ‘Cheers!
  • Springers are a great way of getting better shooting, because of the follow through. But they are a great gun and my next gun .
  • HW97K is the best. Heritage, German engineering, Tick daven accuracy, the Rolls Royse of Air Rifles. The true Connoisseurs Air Rifle.

Great review Better than the Turkish delight stuff which you will have forgotten in a few years . These don't really have a bear trap that's the AA tx . It's held on the safety with these so do keep hold of the lever when your fingers are in there . Gun is great and you did well .they do shoot better free hand.or off a softer bag . Thank you for reviewing this . It and you will getting better the more you shoot . People will talk about tunning and it makes a massive difference but they are good enough for most people out the box . That one didn't twang that badly either . Great views please keep up the good work ,most enjoyable. Oh the scope is too long .makes loading difficult A proper air rifle A lot of people that go PCP come back to these for a reason.

Good Vid ....Always hold onto the barrel while loading a pellet ...if that safety fails you will lose your finger

I have the very same one and I love it and got it very cheap indeed. I was after a 97k as a back up and was going to go for a beech sporter and was going buy one that following week. Then I was in a local pub one Sunday afternoon and a guy I sort of knew was at the bar and we got talking shooting and I mentioned that I was looking for a 97k in 22 and he said he had a blue laminate and was I interested? I remember him saying only a few months prior heā€™d bought one but he said he needed the cash and didnā€™t have the time anymore for it. He said he had bought it in a package deal, scope bag pellets etc for about Ā£650 and still had the box for it. He was asking Ā£500 to which I refused point blank. Anyhow after much haggling and fortunately I had a load of cash on me I waved Ā£300 under his nose saying take it or leave it knowing I had another Ā£100 in pocket which I removed from my wallet when I popped to the gents before we started to talk money. At first he said no but I knew I was so close to a deal, so I said Iā€™ve no more cash but Iā€™ll buy you a pint on my card and he accepted, bingo! But I wasnā€™t really after a blue laminate version as my rifles get used for vermin control and I hadnā€™t been looking for one either and certainly wasnā€™t going to pay the extra for the privilege either but Iā€™d got myself a dam good deal and I knew it. But only a week or so later my local gun shop had a mint condition beach stock in for sale at only around Ā£75 I believe he was asking and as I knew the guy very well he let me have it for Ā£60 so now Iā€™ve kind of got two 97ā€™s. Definitely recommend a 97 to anyone and at some point Iā€™ll be looking for one in 177 possibly a second hand one with a bit of a scabby stock to dress it up in a nice laminate instead.

I have the HW97K in .177, and chose the plastic stock, for durability. I had my first air-rifle, a second hand BSA Meteor, in 1969. It is still reliable, and fun to shoot. However, I had always hankered after a Weihrauch, and decided that I would use my first month Old Age Pension to fulfill this ambition. I have not been disappointed!
