The issue wth doublesided tape (more so double sided fabric tape which is popular) is it creeps sideways, not the clean up. It's not strong enough to keep the piece from moving slightly. I've never had an issue with clean up, but it moving during pressure from a router

As said already , sideways creep is an issue. as well as the thickness between the blank and template has been increased
