  • Doug is the type of guy to do a "driving across USA" video and not include any actual driving footage in it.
  • “Never owned a car this big” Doug forgot he owned a hummer 😭
  • You may never see this, but the tailgate complaint is pretty easy to fix. After pressing lock it waits for the key to leave the bubble around the gate then it’ll close but you can turn that off with a Toyota scan tool in the customize settings. After that it works exactly how you want / expect it to.
  • "...That's kinda more investment. I'd rather just complain". I feel you
  • Doug the type of guy to buy 5 issues of the July 10, 2023 Wall Street Journal (and have them sitting behind him in a video...) because there's an article about him on page A13.
  • “I’d rather just complain” that’s so real 🤣 that’s why we love Doug
  • Doug Demuro, the type of guy to give himself the nickname, "Double D"
  • My pre-watch predictive summary of this episode: Doug drives cross-country in a Toyota. Its gets there just fine. Nothing particularly noteworthy happens to the car.
  • Doug's opinion on the camo style fenders and interior accents is exactly the way I've always felt about fake carbon fiber. I've never really understood the appeal of having fake carbon accents everywhere and yet every car company seems to plaster their "sporty" trim levels with it. I much prefer the classier look of stainless steel, aluminum, leather, woodgrain, or chrome detailing. I've never jived with the boy-racer fake performance car look.
  • 16:05 "I'd rather just complain." - That made me chuckle. I appreciate that even though Doug is now swimming in $$$, he's still keepin' it real. Good on ya', Doug!
  • Doug the kind of guy who releases his own line of mens hygiene products called quirks and features.
  • Regarding Tesla self-driving, you don't have to jiggle the wheel. You can if you want, but the steering wheel just needs to feel the weight of your hand on the wheel. Newer versions of the Tesla self-driving software don't require you to touch the steering wheel, as it tracks your eyes. As long as you have your eyes on the road, you're fine.
  • Car guy flex: I can heel toe Doug flex: I can change lanes on my own
  • Doug, there should be additional menus for the dashboard, hold the OK button and push left or right one more time past the cluster. There should be a menu with view options.
  • @805NAVE
In the last couple of years I’ve done San Diego to Edmonton Alberta and back, San Diego to Tulsa and back, San Diego to Portland and back, San Diego to Denver and back, San Diego to Orlando and back, San Diego to Omaha and back, San Diego to Jackson hole WY and back. 346,000 miles on my Lexus ES330. 2005. 0 issues. 30.0 MPG average each trip. From 118 degrees in Phoenix to snow in Banff and Jackson. 0 issues! So smooth, so flawless. Enough power to get up grades hassle free too, that old V6 is such a gem. I’ve also got an 05 land cruiser with 310k miles.
  • Doug. The tailgate lock button. We have 2023 RX with the same issue. It drove me insane because our 2021 RX did not have this issue. I even asked the guys at the dealership and they were mystified by why some times it closed and locked and sometimes it didn't. Making it more confusing was the fact that the button to just close the tailgate worked without any quirks. HOWEVER, after several months I figured it out. You need to push the button for a long push and then step away from the tailgate by 8 feet or so. And then it will close and lock. When you think about it it makes sense. You are asking the car to lock but it will not lock while the proximity key is INSIDE the car for obvious reasons. When you lock the other doors using the button on the door, the door is already closed, but here, when you press the button you are still technically inside the car because the tailgate is open. It needs to know you both have the key and that it OUTSIDE the car before it locks. So it will beep twice when you press the button. Presumably that signals one that you are closing it, and two that you have permission to lock it by the presence of the key. Then you need to step far enough away for it to read that the key is definitively outside the car so that it can safely lock. In addition, it wants to make sure that all objects, like children, are not close by when closing. So if you put bags on the ground near the back of the car it won't close. The area behind the car needs to be clear.
