Questions for catholics: If Mary and the saints were supposed to be venerated and prayed to, then why the previous prophets of old did not venerate and prayed to their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Weren't these men considered to be holy men? Then why didn't the prophets pray to them but prayed to God alone? Another question: If Mary was a perpetual virgin, then explain Matthew 1:25. Last question: Why didn't Jesus ever mention about praying to Mary and the saints and why did he say to pray to his Father alone?

My Catholic friends get so mad at me when I try to point this out

Matthew 12:48-50 48 Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” 49 Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. 50 Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!”

I suspect that when Christianity was made the state religion of the empire, for political or economic reasons, lots of pagans, including many priests, switch religions but still didn't want to discard all those beautiful statues of Venus, Juno, Diana and Athena. Ya think?

Only Christ was without sin. All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. That includes Mary and the Saints.

I went to a Catholic church with a girl I dated in the 1980s. Nice people and well intentioned, but what really opened my eyes to the Paganism was when I would ask, "where is ___ found in the Bible"? She and others could never tell me, or they would quote something and then try to alter its meaning. Yes, the Bible is VERY CLEAR: you shall have no other gods before me!

This in response to the former Protestant. For some reason I can’t reply directly to that person. Worship comes in many forms. I don’t disagree! How many of those people who may worship that worship band, pray to that band? You didn’t say that I was misinformed in my post. Do you pray the rosary? It came about 1000 yrs after the Resurrection of Jesus. How many Hail Mary’s are there to The Lord’s Prayer? 50-5?! And if you pray that you can get come sins forgiven or someone in purgatory out. Please tell me that’s putting Mary first. And if Mary is first, Jesus ain’t. That’s worshiping

Mary is not God.

Have you ever noticed in the Gospels that Jesus doesn't address Mary as his mother but calls her "woman"? The only account of Jesus referring to Mary as mother was at the foot of the cross when He said, "John, behold your mother", when Christ was placing Mary into the care of his disciple before He died. Even Jesus Himself did not address Mary as "mother". Why do you think that was?

Im so grateful i came across this sermon. Since deciding to follow Christ, I have often wondered about the catholic faith and confused by their prayers to Mary, or other saints, since i read in the bible we are not to pray/talk to dead people. Jesus Christ may have been crucified on the cross but praise be to God, He has risen and lives today!! I pray for the softening of hearts to those who dont believe, that they to may join in sharing His salvation.

@georgepierson4920 Bible does not teach "veneration of Roman Mary or Roman saints". So where did RCs get all your ns? you said Catechism of the Catholic Church Veneration
