The first time I saw a Selectric typewriter was at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair. Among the many fascinating hands-on exhibits at the IBM pavilion, there was an array of Selectric typewriters which anyone could play with. My mother was even more impressed than I. As a legal secretary, her typing skills were phenomenal and she thought the Selectric was fantastic.

Duane - would be really great if you made a video showing all of the lubrication points on a selectric - what to grease and what to oil and what to not grease/oil, etc. Thanks!
  • What kind of grease would you recommend these days for the cycle clutch? When I worked for IBM 30 years ago they said NOT to use any oils or grease with detergent in them (like motor oil) because it washed out the graphite in the "oilite" bearings and ruined them. Just wondering what is a good grease to use these days?
