Saw Claudio Arrau playing this in Sydney in 1957/8....Never forgot it - absolutely wonderful !!

Beethoven was not one of my favorite composers until I heard Claudio Arrau play his concertos and sonatas. How fortunate we are that Arrau gave us such a wealth of beautiful music.

How fitting Claudio Arrau should play "Emperor" in Japan aged 84 I think. My salute to this great genius yet so humble! He has left us physically but left behind his glorious music! Love from Denmark.

En la historia, solo un Mozart. Solo un Beethoveen. Y difícilmente creo que Chile llegue nuevamente a tener una gloria tan grande como el Maestro Arrau. Me emociono extremadamente verlo en su ejecución, su técnica, su interpretación, su sensibilidad para mostrarnos lo que el autor escribió. El mundo no está hecho solo para logros deportivos, que aunque son masivos solo dejan la efervescencia del momento, pero lo que nos dan personajes ilustres como Claudio Arrau, y tantos otros chilenos destacados en las artes perduran por siempre. Es una suerte que nuestra generación tenga la posibilidad de poder verlo, aunque sea en vídeos, porque al menos podrán disfrutar el gran legado de un grande de Chile y el mundo: CLAUDIO ARRAU.

Extraordinaire performance de cet immense pianiste à 84 ans !! La tête et les doigts en parfait état, et ce phrasé souple, détaillé, intelligent qui n'est qu'à lui..

Pareciera como si Beethoven escribiera esta pieza con la sola intención de que fuera tocada por Arrau 200 años después. Superb! La humanidad no verá otro Arrau nunca más.

Por favor Youtube, no interrumpan conciertos con publicidad. Tengan un mínimo de respeto por favor. Consideren que ya tuvimos que soportar una larga tanda publicitaria al comienzo. Honestamente Tribu digital ya me tiene saturado. Tuve la suerte de escuchar en vivo a Claudio Arrau en dos oportunidades. Simplemente insuperable.

I had the privilege to see him performing The Emperor with Carlo Maria Giulini and the great LA Phillharmonic at the majestic Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara California around 1979. What a night! One the most incredible night for any Beethoven's music lovers. It was a memory for a lifetime.
