honestly love how chill this wrap up feels <3 probably the back and forth and having two ppl makes it feel more conversational and cozy
  • I found you all through Shawnaci Schroeder’s channel and I am so grateful for that cause y’alls channel is so fun to watch! 🤭😂
  • Your dynamic is so fun! Its nice to have a conversational style when you're doing the reviews 😊

You guys should read Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan. It's a romance and it's so good and heartfelt. Also, The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah is also great. It is a historical fiction and it is an absolute masterpiece🥰
  • I'm so glad that you enjoyed Happy Place, Jon! I had similar revelations when I read Beach Read, also by Emily Henry. I had previously kind of looked down on romance books and when I read Beach Read I was like.....wow! There's good romance books! It really opened my eyes to a whole new world of reading (and also was a good wakeup call on judging books 😳) and now romance is one of my favorite genres.

wow the world of Matched being chill and nonjudgmental about ppl wanting to be single and not get married, etc. sounds pretty nice to me as aromantic ace person who doesn’t want that, but WILD that the person would have to know where they’re at and what they’d like for the rest of their life at 16 !!

Finals are over!! Amazing feeling!! I agree with Yellowface, and I had really high hopes after I loved Babel so much. Housekeeper and the professor was a brilliant book. Sierra I was so nervous to hear your review of In Memoriam, so I'm so relieved you loved it! Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes is a phenomenal WW1 book. Jon I'm so pleased you loved Emily Henry! I've only read two, but I liked the people we meet on vacation the best so far. Totally agree re Project HM 👍🏻 I have Maus on my shelves and the Goldfinch. Will be reading Maus soon as I'm reading my highest rated books for a vlog.

If you guys haven't already read Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, I'd highly recommend it! The book is very poetic and a magical story that I haven't been able to stop thinking about.

Looks like a solid reading month. Finding Me is on my TBR. I hear nothing but good things about it. Ahhh Matched. 😅 I tried, but it wasn’t for me either. I liked Yellowface, but I get the thoughts on how far it went into the ending. Adding The Housekeeper and The Professor to the TBR. I really enjoyed Ogawa’s The Memory Police and would recommend it if you like open ended books. I’m not a big romance reader, but even I enjoy an occasional Emily Henry. I haven’t read Happy Place, but adding it to the TBR. I enjoyed Red Rising, but for some reason I still haven’t gone further in the series. Maybe I’ll have to get back to it. Andy Weir has some solid sci-fi. I own a copy of Project Hail Mary, but haven’t read it yet. I have read The Martian and really enjoyed it. Great reviews of everything.

I really enjoy watching you two, I have added two books from your list to my Amazon Book Fairy Wish List. 😀 You all provided great book ideas for May which is AAPI and Jewish-AM Heritage Month. I have chosen the Joy Luck Club to participate in Cindy's readathon, not sure how well it covers the prompts 😅 and Elie Wiesel's book Night an autobiographical account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. I only have book 1 of the trilogy, so I will be looking for the other two this weekend.

Finding Me was amazing! I just listened to it last week. The cat story was scarring!
  • @megfreypt
Jon you need to read part of your world by Abby Jimenez. Was my first 5🌟 this year

In Memoriam sounds interesting. I went through a period where I read alot of WWI adjacent novels. These were the ones that stood out for me: At night all blood is black - which I know you two praised. I was similarly struck by the narrative and even more so by the real history of the so called "chocolat soldiers". I read an article after Diop was longlisted for the Int'l Booker titled "In the trenches with the colonizer". That alone is enough reason to pick up this novel! A Month In The Country by JL Carr. It's another short novel but it follows this man who returns from WWI, he's down and out but gets a job in the English countryside for the summer. It's such a heartwarming story but alludes to PTSD (shell shock as it was referred to back then) Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, one of the characters is a WWI veteran whose mind has unravelled since returning from the war. This was a more profound picture of PTSD, very heartbreaking Definitely these 3 deal with the harrowing psychological impact of war The Bridge on The Drina by Ivo Andric. It's historical fiction that spans the Ottoman empire all the way to WWI. It follows the lives and histories of the people who live along the Drina, a border territory of Bosnia and Serbia and they way history encroached on each generation. Feel better Jon and Congrats Sierra!

I was so excited to read Red Rising and I wound up skipping the last 50ish pages and reading the spoilers online. I reached a point where I JUST. COULD. NOT anymore. It felt like it was never going to end. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn’t hate it but I doubt I’ll continue. I feel like I would probably wind up stuck the way you are.
  • I gave Project Hail Mary 5 stars too!! And I really liked Happy Place! I’m a sucker for a good friend group/found family trope.
  • @Sydney.grahammm
when I say I screamed when I saw Happy Place in the thumbnail… I SCREAMED!! So glad you liked it 💞 recommend Beach Read if you are up for another Emily Henry read!
  • I’m really becoming a fan of your channel. You two are fun and your reviews are interesting. Thank you for listing titles too. ♥️☮️
