This was a 1970 Chevelle big block 454 that broke some valve springs and rockers during cruisin the coast so i let a fellow car guy use the shop and i helped him get it back up and running so he could enjoy the rest of cruisin the coast. Enjoy the sounds of a big block thumping away at idle. Its very important to measure everything when building high lift cam set ups, this one was binding up and making contact so broken springs and rockers was the result.

What also works is to feed a bunch of light rope into the cylinder, then move the piston up till it compresses the valves...quieter and easy to pull out.

i had a sketchy machine shop do a vavle job on some SBC heads and the car smoked so BAD when i got it running... they didnt put the orings on the valves and i had to do every valve like that and it took like 5 hours...

What would be a sign you have a broken or weak spring I have a tapping coming from what sounds like a lifter but I’ve checked all of my rockers and reset them and it’s still there and it’s in the top half of the engine i mean it’s got a really fat cam I think they did something cheaply or wrong

Cant say much for an engine builder that installs a cam with 700+ lift and never checks for coil bind, etc.. Dangerous to have spring remnants floating around as I truly doubt you got 100% of the broken springs and rockers out

You broke a valve spring cruising ..I'm sorry bro.. but the last spring I broke was just thru the lights at Lebanon valley @ like 7500 RPM but cost a few bucks more than just a spring ... but once we made the swap to K Motion were all good ..
