As much as I like the story of The King of Fighters I think SNK wasted a lot of opportunities in terms of the story. For example, making Robert and Yuri an official couple like in Art of Fighting 3 and making Kasumi Ryo's love interest (just look at Kasumi's ending in AOF3 it's obvious that she started to have feelings for the blond guy). After all Robert wears his AOF3 costume in KOF 96. Another opportunity that SNK missed was about the destruction of Southtown at the end of KOF 2000, they could say that because of that horrible event is that they founded Second Southtown (the city where Terry and Rock live in Garou MOW). The first KOF Maximum Impact was another wasted opportunity, it could easily be in the timeline of Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting, say that KOFMI1 takes place after the death of Geese and before the events of Garou MOW, I say this because Terry had his Garou suit as alternative and Rock was a teenager. About Ash Saga, since they were with that time travel stuff and Hayate is seen as playable in KOF XI and as a cameo in KOF XIII in Takuma's dojo, they could say that due to Saiki's travels and the use of the Time Gate, it brought as a consequence to bring characters from other times to the present. Those are some of my crazy ideas 😊
