It wasn’t only Iran against Iraq , it was Iran fighting 28 countries including both superpowers... Iran had POWs from 17 different nationalities!

"The ship carries liquid petroleum gas, or LPG, a highly volatile product from the Gulf Oil fields." Cut to guy with a heater hanging out of his mouth at 3:22...lol

I was there from Nov84-Feb85 (USS George Philip FFG-12). 20:43 is the USS Samuel Eliot Morison (FFG-13). A frigate, not a 'destroyer'.

Two flaws in this documentary: 1. The surveyor gave a wrong explanation on BLEVE, if LPG refrigeration fails there would only be a loss of product which is usually vented or flared and for BLEVE other conditions must be met. 2. It had a mission to demonstrate that the main motivation of fighting Sadam invading troops for Iranians was religious, leaving patriotism out totally.

The headbands the soldiers were wearing don't say anything about Khomeini it is about Imam Hussain the 3rd Shia Imam.

@0:57 why Iraqi map looks larger from both Jordanian & Saudi borders? I heard both Jordanian & Saudi governments took land from Iraq as a fees for attacking them in Kuwait vs Iraq war.

Am wondering the name of the manufacturer of the Iranian missiles. Exocets are fairly common and easy to obtain from third parties.
  • Most western powers and Persian Gulf states provided Iraq with logistical as well as informatic and financial support during the war. This was a bare minimum Iran could have done in retaliation.

Iran's foreign supporters gradually came to include Syria and Libya, through which it obtained Scud missiles. It purchased large quantities of weaponry from North Korea and the People's Republic of China, notably the Silkworm anti-ship missile. It also acquired arms from Portugal, notably after 1984. It also acquired propellants and other weapons related components from Spain and Portugal.

Since 28 September 1980 Iraq offered ceasefire and peace to Iran but Iran refused and rejected all Iraqi offers + UN resolutions and went on to invade Iraq but failed so badly and lost 740,000 soldiers killed and more than 1 million wounded.
