This is a talk I had in May with Alex from Local Monero. Alex was a great guest and we had a respectful debate about some of our disagreements on failures and promises of cryptocurrencies and corporate influence on YouTubers.

Alex from LocalMonero here! At 02:24:50 I ask for the embarrassing segment to be redacted but in the end we both decided to keep it 😊 At 02:47:33 I accidentally used "Godwin's Law" instead of the proper name "Gresham's Law", and then proceed to keep using the wrong name throughout further references 😅 Thanks for having me on and it was a pleasur

People always use China as an example of how you can use a VPN to bypass government restrictions. Well, I've lived in China, and I can tell you from personal experience that when the government wants to stop VPNs, they can and do.

I think its really nice seeing some Crypto critical content in the Privacy Bubble.

3:05:38 I think Session is the app you're looking for. It solves some of the flaws of Signal. it is fully peer to peer and messages are not at risk of interception.
  • Love these longer talks you have with people. Very good and informative! Thank you!
  • Thank you, Alex. I learned a lot. Discussions like this are important.

Great talk but I was a little annoyed that your main concern was monetary policy - specifically that BTC and most hyped cryptos are deflationary - but never acknowledged that Monero is NOT deflationary, and has a (seemingly) reasonable monetary policy programmed in with its flat tail emission. Then the talk sort of ends with you saying you're looking for something with "better monetary policy" even though you never mentioned any critiques about Monero's specific implementation of it. Are you implying that instead of a flat tail emission Monero would be better off with some person, group of people, or algorithm trying to adjust that tail emission (inflation) based on current events? If that is what you are arguing I would strongly disagree. That's how things are currently done and clearly it isn't working. Deflation is bad, yes. Some inflation is vital to a good currency. But I don't see how you're taking those positions and ending up at "well Monero isn't for me due to it's monetary policy". If what you mean is some algorithm should be adjusting tail emission based on some global metric I think that's a valid opinion, but as Alex pointed out - most of history was based on currencies we couldn't control the inflation rate on and things worked out. I'm convinced whatever crypto "wins" will be inflationary - but I'm not convinced it must have a "variable" inflation rate. I see no reason we couldn't find a "sweet spot" and program that in as a hard limit.

Marketing is a euphemism for sales manipulation psychology. Plain and simple. Money is involved so there always Should be skepticism.
  • Hi Algorithm. I think you should recommend this channel to everyone!

Excellent work pushing back on the false correlation between abandoning the gold standard and life becoming harder for the average person!

I downloaded the app for Local Monero. Seems to be working fine.
  • Monetary policy won’t be implemented until stock markets crash IMO.

I agree with the hated one on saying YouTube creators should say they are biased when promoting products they use, especially when it comes to cyber security and privacy. Educated peer reviews do matter in the cyber world!! And should not be taken lightly or be trivial in this day in age. People need to know what's going on and who they can trust. Educated peer reviews should be apart of that. I'm not going to go on the word of a random YouTuber of what keeps me private and secure. This type of knowledge we all know is not common knowledge. Also me : peer reviews don't matter unless the hated one mentions it😂

I was heavily thinking about running my own wg-vpn through a VPS, but, currently I have a "foreign" VPN who I have "battle-tested" for nearly a decade. I don't understand how to properly size up a VPS provider to figure out how they're gonna feel if they get some TLA love letters one day if my VPS is ingesting some...stuff from....somewhere. Egh, so many of the questions here being asked were answered by Mises.
