FIRST DRIVE: Singer Goes Turbo – The Whale Tail Returns!

As with all Singer’s restoration services for the Porsche 911, the process takes the 964 generation of rear-engined, air-cooled cars as its starting point, but the big news on this one is an evolution of the ‘Mezger’ flat-six, now in 3.8-litre from and featuring twin turbochargers.
Owners can specify 450bhp or 510bhp, paired with a manual six-speed gearbox, and personalise their car’s character towards grand touring or sports driving as they wish. But whatever their preference, the gorgeous, bespoke carbonfibre body remains, as does Singer’s exquisite attention to detail.
It celebrates the iconic Porsche 930 Turbo, which so happens to be one of Tom Ford’s all-time favourites, so we sent Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor to test this reimagined version…

510bhp / 1200kg ~ 425hp per ton....This Singer turbo can move. The mint green example with the brown interior is fabulous. The type of car you'd buy and never sell........Good job Singer

It's great. I hope performance cars can heal from the disease of more more more. We don't need 1000+hp that then choked back by electronics pushing a 1600kg+ car. I've had a go in those kinds of things, and I can honestly say the most fun I've ever had in a car was a BMW E30 with a later engine swapped in. Probably just 200hp to the tire, 975kg, little wheels and a nice 5 speed.

Singer build top qualify cars... amazing ... attention to detail .. I admire and love what they do but I also love the Porsche originals with all their quirky faults ... and when it comes to motorsport department 1980s and early 90s such as 954 SC RS and 964 RS N/GT or 964 RSR Porsche is in another world ... singer can never compare to these classics
