I bought an oculus rift with the recent price drop but I have to take it back, it makes me feel sick on certain games.

there is no difference between oculus and vive when it comes to motion sickness.

I felt the same way man, my family has a history of vertigo too, eve valkyrie made me vomit but after playing 10 to 20 minutes each day I started getting use to it and now play it without any dizziness or wanting to vomit

thank's for sharing. Sent back the Vive and kept the Rift, but i didn't get sick while playing. This is strange because I'm often getting sick while playing FPS on 2D screens. My tip is to breathe slowly and closing eyes a few seconds from time to time when I feel it's a bit jerky. I'm sorry for you. Anyway you do not miss much, as there are not so many great games at this time.

I just received my Oculus Rift yesterday and after setting up I got stuck into one of favourite flight sims. IL-2 Battle of Moscow and after only 10 minutes I started to feel ill, not exactly running to the toilet head in the bowl kind of sick, but a very strange nausea. It's a bit difficult to describe and it lasted an hour or so after I removed the headset. I think the main problem is far objects tend to be blurry even though I have the game graphics set to ultra and so my eyes can't really lock on to anything. I will persist for a while, but if this continues I will be in the same boat as you and have no choice but return it. On the positive side this is a brilliant bit of kit, the first time I looked around the cockpit of my ME109 I was amazed. Oh and google earth is pretty fantastic as well. I'm off to test Elite Dangerous, no doubt I'll soon be heading for the bog. bluuuuuuughh Lol.

I don't think you should take it back, there are so many amazing games on Rift right now, that would ease you into VR and definitely not cause any nausea. So, first of all, what specs are you running? You MUST maintain 90 fps. If you drop frames, that is the biggest cause of sickness. Secondly, the majority of people can become more resistant to motion sickness and then not be affected at all. It is only a minority who cannot adapt. It takes a few days to a few weeks for most people to get used to VR. It's called "VR Legs" and it does exist. GO over at the oculus sub reddit reddit.com/r/oculus and make a thread and ask. Keep it, and take it easy. You're jumping into the intense experiences right away.. that is never a good idea. Don't give up https://uploadvr.com/7-ways-overcome-vr-motion-sickness/

I've been for VR for decades now (since I was a kid in the 90's), so when I got my DK2 a few years ago and felt dizzy after just a few minutes, I was gutted! But after a few sessions of trial and error, I grew my VR legs and can remain immersed for hours with no problem. I've demoed it for a few dozen people, and of them, it seemed like about 30% got sick. It is a real barrier

Close your eyes when you start to get that feeling and wait a few seconds. You have to build a tolerance for it.

Sorry to hear about your motion sickness with Elite mate The problem I have with VR is the sweaty face I get after around 20mins of play!
  • Lay off the weed, it may help LOL. Dude you either just woke up or chuff like a chimney :) I got the Rift about a week ago. Have had no problems. Only time I felt funny ( not sick ) was when I reverse in a car in PC2. You need to do short stints first, then work your way up. It will get better. Also use the debug tool and set the HUD display to Performance. See how your frames etc are doing. If it's jumping between 45fps and 90fps all the time, that's your problem.
  • I do not know why some people are getting sick. I do not have an oculus rift but I have used it once and I did not feel sick at all.
  • @chrisduncan3943
You should try Chimes ginger chews (or any kind of ginger). It's great for VR sickness before you've got your "vr legs".
  • @baronsengir187
Start small and challenge yourself slowly. And with rollercoasters and stuff. That is supposed to make you feel that way :D That is the fun in it
  • @nrosko
supposed to start off with games that don't make you ill & then get used to it. Surprised you didn't give it longer considering the research you have done. Took me a few days.
  • @Klaus_Klavier
I was reading and there are actually PHYSICAL solutions to the "VR sickness" one is simply as turning on a fan, another is having some ginger, they also said simply if you walk around with joysticks jog in place when moving- it helps

When i first tried a Vive I felt sick and I also was with my PSVR however Ive now got used to Vr and I rarely get any sickness. Incedently where did you purchase your rift. thinking about getting one.
  • @EJTechandDIY
is not about vive or oculus give it a chance I got mine too a week ago and now I dont feel sick anymore, is just a thing of get use too
  • @NotHimJim
I had the same problem with the PSVR!! Although I was also tempted by the £399 Oculus deal!
  • @Peteskis
I have both Oculus and Vive, I was one of the first pre orders for oculus DK1. If you suffer from motion sickness o the Oculus then you will also suffer on the Vive. It is way better than when the first DK1 was out but even then after a short time you get used to it and it didn't bother, now I never even notice on the vive or oculus. It's like anything in life, you get used to and over it, ie, being on a boat in choppy seas.
  • @stevenqneuk8
I suffered with sickness for a while when I got my DK2. I'm 100% fine with it now, usually spending 3 hours + in Elite with no problems. Ordered a CV1 in the sale, hope it turns up soon :)

iss made me feel sick, but I don't think my frame rate was up there. I can play lone echo ok and its similar to iss. you should have stuck with it and got your vr legs, have breaks and avoid play too intense games. the first time I tried vr was the dk2, took ages to setup then I went on the wrong thing and was sick for hours, but after I recovered I could play for hours; it just caught me off guard with dodgy movement
