An introduction to the Analects of Confucius focusing on five passages: 1.3, 3.4, 6.8, 9.4 and 12.16. If you would like to continue reading and join a conversation on the Analects, head over to bookconnect.io/ and take notes on the Analects. For those who participate, we'll hold a class on November 28th to explore the work as a community - the way Confucius did 2,500 years ago (except he didn't have video calls).

Thank you Wes. Great lecture! Here in Austria the same: dragging down instead of lifting someone up. So annoying. Makes the society worse instead of better. Creates frustrations.
  • @Jimmylad.

6:00. To have good people, from which the government arises. A corrupt people will give rise to corrupt government, hence education is a moral endeavour.

"The Art of War"& Other Eastern Classics of Eastern Philosophy. Confusion Analects: Book I. Hsio R Book II. Wei Chang Book III. Pa Yih Book IV. Li Zan Book V. Kung-ye Ch' ang Book VI. Yung Yey Book VII: Shu-R Book VIII: 'T' ai-pu Book IX: Tsze Han Book X11. Ye Yuan I will do my best to follow along. We are going over five passages. 1.3 3.4 6.8. 9. 9.4 12.16 12.16 ( Confucius was a great moral teacher and his greatest teaching was his golden rule, "What you do not wish to be done yourself, do not do unto others.") He never pretended to be more than a man, but he needed the right way to live and be the right way with himself, and for the ruler to rule, so as to make men happy and good. A great Chinese sage was born in the state of Lu in 551, B.C. The Chinese is a very old race, their record going back to 2,637 B.C., though there were Chinese probably living there long before that. China as a Empire began in 221 B.C., and lasted for more than 2,100 years. However, as far back as you go, there is the ruler of prominence in China- the ruler and the sage, or Man of Intelligence, advised and helped the ruler, taught him lessons from truth and duty. from this custom grew in full in full force since the 7th century A.D., that all the officers of the government must be educated. This is now done by competitive examinations. Confuciusism represented the brain and the morality of a nation. However, there were 3 religions of China ; Confuciusism: Taoism and its superstitions and Buddism , it's worship and idolatry, though it acknowledges no god. Thank you, Professor Wes Cecil.
