This video is a follow up to last week’s video in which I put the shoe on the other foot and tried to be honest about stupid things we Catholics say to Protestants and after having paid those dues, I hope it’s now fair to describe stupid things that Protestants say to Catholics.

And much of this comes from my own personal experience which is the thing I want to emphasize here. I’m no scholar and so I’m not trying to say, here are the fatal flaws in Protestant theology. But I am trying to say why I’ve been unconvinced by certain arguments and tactics that I’ve encountered.

I hope it’s clear that I’m not claiming to identify what all Protestants believe, because that kind of unanimity doesn’t exist in Protestantism. Instead, I’m describing things that are commonly said to Catholics by different kinds of Protestants. If it doesn’t apply to you, then you should have no need to be defensive about it because I’m obviously not describing you.

And if you want a more comprehensive treatment of why I chose to become Catholic instead of remain Protestant, check out this video:    • Why I #Converted to the #Catholic #Ch...

  • Every Protestant - may I give you a challenge. I was protestant and did this. Study the early church fathers and research what they taught. The water runs clearest at the base of the spring. Studying the early church Fathers is what converted me to become Catholic.

Brian, I am a Catholic Priest of 27 years. You explain better than I can, with my passion fore the truth!
  • As a protestant I really enjoyed this video. You gave a fair and graceful explanation to some of the devisive statements thrown around by protestants, and was very informative! Thank you for the content my Brother! God bless you and your family...
  • I’ve personally had a pretty bad experience with a Protestant pastor in particular who tried to persuade me not to do good. Quick backstory: I’ve been raised a Catholic but in university I joined a Bible study group which is mainly organized by Protestants, so I ended up attending some of their youth groups activities. I also volunteer once a week in a soup kitchen which is managed by Catholic monks which feeds thousands of poor people every day. So one day the youth group pastor comes to me and asks “Do you still go to that soup kitchen?”, to which I answered “Yes I really like going there, I think it’s a good thing” or something along that line, and to that he said “You know you really don’t have to go there since we are already saved by faith alone in Jesus”, he said that almost as if I was doing some sort of evil thing by volunteering there and wanted me to quit. Which ironically for “sola scriptura” is also wrong as Jesus himself teaches us to love one another and to help those in need and be charitable. He also teaches us to recognise people by their fruit: you can say you have faith but if you don’t apply it you’re not bearing good fruit, quite the contrary if you try to actively persuade people not to do good. The “Good Samaritan” parable is exactly about this, before the man in need was helped by the Samaritan a priest passed by without doing anything. Jesus tells us that is wrong and the Samaritan did the right thing while the priest (that most certainly had faith and thought he was “justified” by that faith alone) was in the wrong because he didn’t act on that faith when he had the chance.

I was gobsmacked when a person I went to school with asked me if I was Christian. I said "Of course, I'm Catholic." Unfazed, she asked, "But are you a Christian?" 40 years later and I'm still perplexed what didn't she understand. I, of course, learned soon after some protestants don't view Catholicism as Christian, but what does confuse me is that theologically stunted bias.
  • I do think Catholics are more friendly to Protestants than the inverse. Christ is King!
  • @PaulsWanderings
The one thing that I hate is when people say Catholics aren't Christians.
  • I think the lowest IQ statement I hear is in reference to crucifixes and other images of Christ crucified: "How come you guys keep Jesus on the cross? Don't you know Jesus isn't on the cross anymore?!" Thanks. We are aware that those artistic depictions of Christ redeeming the world are not a status report.

Bro, as a former Protestant now Catholic, I think I can say your channel is a great tool to explain the faith. Now can I complement you in saying you are such a humble dude. God bless you my brother! I hope to meet you one day!
  • Brian, you missed the most stupid thing Protestants inflict upon Catholics: "Telling Catholics what Catholics actually believe based on bible quote bingo" in very specific theological discussions.
  • @cthurbz5146
This whole video was so well said. I’m honestly saving it so I can go back and listen again in the future. Your videos are one of the main reasons I was able to come back to Catholicism, with your explanations, wit, and humor. I have never been more fulfilled and happy since returning to the church and finding a deeper prayer life. Thank you.
  • When I was a Protestant, before I even considered becoming Catholic, I was engaged to a Catholic. So a Protestant lady informed me that Catholics consider Mary Magdalene to be the patron Saint of prostitutes. I guess she expected that to startle me 😂. She just didn’t understand what it meant I guess. It means prostitutes need prayer too and Mary Magdalene is a good recommended prayer warrior for them. It doesn’t mean that Mary Magdalene approves of prostitution. Thanks for these videos! As a Catholic convert who used to be Protestant, I still get personally offended when I hear Catholics saying stupid things about Protestants. I get the feeling that the old me is being insulted and treated unfairly. I should probably get over it, but it is truly frustrating! Most Catholics just don’t even understand modern Protestants at all!

Hmmm, what do I like best? The crystal-clear corollary of Brian's arguments, the stunning rhetoric, the occasional pinch of humour, the great knowledge of theology? Well, all of it. But on top of my list is the kind, gentle, loving human being Brian. 🔝 And I look forward to seeing 100000 followers this time next week, when I gladly turn in on another of your very enlightening programmes. Thank you so much. Deus te omnnesque tuos benedicat!
  • As a protestant I really enjoyed this video. It explained a lot pf things that I had misunderstood and gave me a lot of information why catholics do what they do and why they practise certain things. God bless you brother
  • @l0r3st0
Good explanation, Brian. Don’t argue with anyone of different religions unless they are interested in conversion to Catholicism. Know your own religion and live it. Some just want to argue or bring you down. It gets really old. If how I live my faith doesn’t convince you, leave me alone. I’ll pray for you secretly.
  • @NomosCharis
Protestant here, and this was a fair, well-stated, and enjoyable video. 👍
  • @brucermarino
This Protestant theologian appreciates your commentary and style. I found myself laughing out loud. Well done my friend!
  • @Unpluggedx89
One big difference I have noticed in attending both Catholic and Protestant services are I have not once ever heard a Priest/Deacon ever badmouth any other denominations whereas I have heard multiple times over from Protestant-based churches their preacher badmouthing Catholicism. Personally I think it’s a cry for power and them being in a position of power try to do everything they can to keep it so they influence their congregation to badmouth Catholics and build up a following. Think of it this way. Have you ever seen a catholic priest or deacon or nun with a fancy car or private jet?
