This is like 4 seasons of built up anger finally projecting out. This is one of the best scenes of the series. I hope Sarah and Matthew get their well deserved Emmys.

Everything they said to each other was true, but Tom ultimately understands Shiv much, much more than Shiv understands Tom, which made his insults more effective and devastating.

Tom’s sleep deprivation clearly added to the level of his bluntness

"You have hurt me more than you could possibly imagine." My goodness, the very real pain on his face and in his voice. I hope this cast wins every possible award for this season.

"I have given you endless approval....but it doesn't fill you up because you're broken" 😭😭😭
  • @BananapeelJack
"...it's not my fault you didn't get his approval." This might be one of the most important lines in the series, none of the Roy children have been able to obtain Logan's approval and we have all been witness to the results...

She was so right when she said he never deserved her. He deserved a looooooot better.

This is the scene that won them both Emmys

This was such a powerful scene, Matthew and Sarah deserve all the awards for this

"you're too transparent to find in a book" wow that hurt

The tragedy of this scene for me was how Shiv simply cannot fathom that Tom genuinely loved her, because she's been raised to believe she herself is not capable of being loved. There must be some ulterior motive, because as much as that would hurt, it would make more sense to her. Sincerity is highly distrusted in the Roy family, since they've been raised by liars. The fact that so much of Shiv's argument in this scene comes from that place is what makes this scene equally sad for her as it is for Tom, who is of course 100% correct about everything he's saying.

Tom calling Shiv broken and Shiv blaming Tom for her father’s death hit especially hard. Those are things real people actually say to each other in the heat of the moment.
  • @Apretadito
That gesture when Tom says "broken" is just brilliant

They both killed this scene - I just loved how finally we get the raw emotional reaction from 2 characters. No more of the tip toeing around the problems with satirical comments and whimsical jokes. I feel there is a few other characters that also need scenes like this.

I love the line "you never deserved me" because she's saying it from a place of superiority, but it's still true because Tom didn't deserve to be mistreated and strung along by a narcissist.

Such complexity, truly an outstanding scene. You can see how deep Tom's comment about Shiv not being a good person to have children hits her. She never wanted children, scared she'd end up like her mother and her children would end up like her, now she finds herself pregnant and the father says out loud quite venomously what she's been thinking about herself all along.

The facial acting is INCREDIBLE 1:20 Shiv's shock at Tom's screaming, which quickly switches when she thinks of something to say in return 1:46 Tom realizing what he is about to say crosses a line, but it's too late to stop himself 1:50 Shiv genuinely hurt by Tom saying she wouldn't be a good person to have children

Playing Tom Wambsgans would be any Actor's dream role. Myriad of emotions from start to end in one single episode only. And it goes without saying that no one could have perfected Tom except Matthew Macfadyen. He is just an incredible actor. Hope to see him holding his 2nd Emmy soon.

"You really kept me safe while you ran off to f*** the phone book" Cracked me right up.
