  • The US Navy has mastered the art of power projection, but they also do a lot of protect commercial vessels and vital trade lanes. Id argue the USN is the single most important branch in the United States' military. Think of a force so powerful that it could effectively strike targets anywhere on the globe in a matter of hours. It could land boots on the ground in multiple countries on the same day. In all of history, only the US Navy has had these capabilities. Godspeed to these brave sailors and pilots who are serving their country. It's not easy to do what they do. May they all come home safely. 🇺🇲
  • I absolutely loved seeing this my dad was a commissioning crew member on the original Tripoli in 1966 and I gasped when I saw this on my YouTube recommendations.

“And usually you guys look out here and see ocean?” “Yes sir when you come out here all you see is water.” I nominate this gentlemen for Reporter of the Year. Bravo.

My aunt was visiting one time so I was driving her and my mom around San Francisco. We were at an old shore battery on the north side of the Golden Gate when an aircraft carrier was coming in. I over heard my mom and aunt saying “how cute it was that the aircraft carrier had a little white picket fence around the deck!”. They didn’t know why I was laughing at them.😹
  • Manning the rails goes way back to when ships entering a port had their crew on deck to let the people know that the guns werent manned.
  • My daughter was on this ship's twin, the use america lha6 when it was commissioned here in sf in 2014. Props to the men and women who provide our safety and freedom. Godspeed uss tripoli

I love that the shipboard barber shop even has the little barber's pole outside.

"I don't want to insult my mother, but it's competitive". I said the same thing about our DFAC on AFBs. 🤣
  • Welcome to San Francisco and thank you for your service - keep us safe - as we pray for you all and your families and loved ones.

As a young Marine I was stationed for a short time aboard the old USS Tripoli in the early 80s.

I was invited onboard the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) tied up at Canada Place in Vancouver in 1995. It Served the US Navy from 1966 to 1995, this Iwo Jima class amphibious assault ship was only months away from decommissioning back then. An MH-53E mine-clearing helicopter was on the flight deck. The ship had sustained heavy damage when she struck a mine during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. I was shown the repair and some damaged metal pieces that they had on display. They also showed me the hanger, repair shop, and forecastle anchor room.

I was with the 31st marine amphibious unit aboard the USS Tripoli in the mid-70s. I was in communications and to gain experience I was assigned to the ships radio room where I worked and Bunk’d with the ships company seeing this video brings back old memories

I was on the LPH Tripoli 10 with the 26th Marines in the late 60’s, saw her again at Fleet Week sometime in the mid 90’s I guess and again around 2013 the decommissioned Tripoli was tied up near pier 80 for several months. This one is a beauty, the Marines will appreciate her.
