Dads for Transgender Equality: Wayne

Published 2016-09-02
Countless parents of transgender and gender-expansive youth are pledging to make the world safer for their children.

The HRC Foundation creates impact through 11 programs and initiatives, working with individuals and organizations to make transformational change in the everyday lives of LGBTQ+ people.

The Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where every member of the LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear, and with equality under the law. We empower our 3 million members and supporters to mobilize against attacks on the most marginalized people in our community.

  • This is an example of someone who deserves to be called a parent- no matter what your beliefs are, the kids come first. Thank you for helping people love their children, sir; it's such an important thing to me and so many others

I'm a trans woman too and really loved listening to this supportive dad!

Thank you for who you are, Wayne. I'm a trans woman with a religious conservative family, and they are struggling with my identity. Because I love and respect and trust them so much, it makes it hard for me to accept myself, though I am trying. Thank you so much for working so hard to expand your concept of love, it's a hard thing to do. Your daughter is the first trans superhero on TV, but as far as I'm concerned you are a superhero too ❤️

In the UK, Nicole would have protected under the Equality Act (2010). Trans people must be allowed to use the bathroom of their identified gender in Britain. I hope this comes to the US soon.

My wife and I are going through the same thing. I believe that if a child is up front about who they are and want to be that they should have that right. I believe that parents should support their children and love them no matter what.

Nicole is such a role-model for me, even though I'm so much older.
  • After watching this video, I have the greatest of respect for her father. He overcame his fears and supported her. I hope they can stay safe.
