'Supergirl' Star Nicole Maines Reflects On Making History With Transgender Superhero Role

Nicole Maines hopes to inspire others with her groundbreaking role. The "Supergirl" actress and activist chatted with Access Hollywood about making history as the first transgender superhero Dreamer on The CW series. "I'm just happy to be able to be a person who can do that for somebody," she said. "I'm happy to be able to bring to life a character that is going to do that for somebody else, that is going to allow a kid to see themselves as a superhero and give them the confidence to come out to their families, to their friends, to their communities." Catch "Supergirl" airing Sundays at 9 p.m. on The CW.

There are like 3-4 trolls on this video that are replying to basically every comment they come across that refers to Nicole as the woman she is. Honestly, I think it might just be one sad person on multiple accounts, but just a heads up to anyone they reply to, just ignore them because responding to them only encourages them.

She is awesome. I'm an old cis male. I don't claim to know or fully understand the experience of being transgender, but I also know that it's not my place to tell her or anyone living their lives who or what they are or supposed to be. I have known many transgender people. I have never had any issues with these friends. In my Native American Circle, I learned the importance of respecting so-called two spirit people. That's not exactly what transgender people are, but the lesson of respect is the same.

At the risk of sounding ignorant. Nicole is the only trans person I have ever seen that I did not know was trans the moment I saw her. I had to Google to figure it out. Pretty talented and a massive inspiration to people of her community
